Nyx had pulled the hat she was wearing off and her goggles were now up on her forehead; it was hard for her to read a book with those annoying yellow lenses in the way. She was sitting on her bed, reading. She had a few narrow red stripes on her cheeks, but they were a bit hard to see when she had her head tilted so that her hair hid them.

Paul saw when they'd climbed the stairs that the new girl had gone into the girl's dormies; he changed, taking the shape of an ordinary looking girl; brown hair, brown eyes, plain face. This was so that if anyone happened to glance in, they wouldn't notice anything untoward. There were a lot of children in the orphanage, after all.

Nyx looked up, hearing someone walking in the hall, and she tugged the goggles back down over her eyes and flipped up the hood on the hoodie she was wearing under the trench coat.
