"There's nowhere I could hide him to keep him safe for six months. Come the full moon, myself and the Moon Priestesses would find him eventually, even if it takes all six full moons."

"Then don't hide him until the last reasonable mome-OW!" She cut herself, "Oh, for f*ck sake."

[Miranda_]

"Careful; don't bleed on the flowers. It gets the tigers edgy. Anyway, I can't hide Zaister anywhere near here; there's nowhere to hide him, and I can't go out in the streets without the Five. I could dismiss the male guard, but not the Five."

"Then have somone else." She sucked her finger.

[Miranda_]

"It's not as simple as that," said Izvire with a touch of irritation. "You don't know anything, so don't pretend you do." She got up. "I need to talk to Kyrast anyway." Altho Kyrast was Izvire's mother, she had always been distant from her daughter; Izvire had been brought up by nannies, as her own daughter Zervain was being. At five years old, Zervain, who was Zaister's daughter, was the heir to the throne.

"I never said I knew anything."

[Miranda_]

Izvire sighed. "Come with me. I'm just on edge about this whole thing."

SHe stood up, brushing off her clothes.

[Miranda_]

Izvire led the way to the part of the palace where the Moon Priestesses lived. The Head Priestess was Kyrast; when a Moon King became too old to bear children, she relinquished the crown to her eldest daughter and became Head Priestess.
