The strain on Loki was immense; not only the driving, but also the constant fight with his dark side. He couldn't understand why it had uprisen so quickly, and was so difficult to keep in check when he hadn't had any trouble before.

Heimdall gave Athena a quick smile. "Think we're nearly there; you can hold on til then, right?"

Loki had a feeling of unease as he opened the door of the back seat and helped Athena out, along with Heimdall. It wasn't anything he could pin down exactly, but it still worried him, like the calm before a storm broke.

Athena didn't stop to wonder just why it was hurting so bad, or why it felt like there was a hand squeezing her heart. Since she'd never had a child before, she didn't know that something was terribly wrong.

She cried out a little more loudly than before.

Heimdall began to help Athena to the hospital doors. Loki finally was able to pinpoint the bad feeling; despite everything, he still was clever enough to be able to work it out. The shadows were attacking now, while Athena was weak; if he didn't stop them, then he would be blamed, he was sure of it. He pulled deep within him, even as he walked behind Athena, to his dark side. Somehow, it seemed to be perfectly happy about doublecrossing the shadows and working against them to keep them away from Athena; then again, Loki had done a lot of doublecrossing in his time, perhaps it came naturally to both sides of him.
