Fenrir thought about the deal. He wanted above everything else to get out of the ribbon, so he decided to honour it. He showed this by lowering his hackles and closing his mouth, hiding his teeth from view.

"Good." Said Athena. She took another cautious step forward. "Now, if you'll just let me have a good look at this ribbon..." Now she could feel it, the magic intwined with the ribbon. But there appeared to be no runes.

But perhaps the specific type of energy given off by the ribbon could be examined, and tell her the exact nature of the spell binding the massive canine.

The ribbon had originally been made by the dwarves, who had also made Freya's necklace. It seemed fragile, but was in fact stronger than any chain could be; in fact, Fenrir had broken two chains before being bound with the ribbon.

Athena touched the silky, red ribbon and examined its aura closely and carefully. She had to decide the best way to get it off. She determined that the spell couldn't be fully and truly removed, but that might work to her adveantage, if she thought it through...

Fenrir was getting impatient. He'd been locked in this room for countless centuries.

What are you going to do? Came a question from Sleipnir.

I don't think I trust him enough to fully release him, so I'm gonna warp this spell to make another that only acts up at my command. So he'll think he's free whn I'm really the one in charge. Came Athena's reply.

You sure it'll work out the way? Sleipnir was nervous, and worried for Athena.

I'm still working on it. Aloud to Fenrir, she said "Sorry this is taking a while, but whoever made this did a thorough job, and I must be scrupulous."

Fenrir growled in reply. He settled down to wait for Athena to remove the ribbon.

I think I got it! The spell will freeze him in place like some stuffed animal when I clearly think the word 'Argelfraster'. Athena thought to Sleipnir.

'Argelfraster'? What kind of a word is that? Came Sleipnir's reply.

It's the only one that'l work. I basically combined the word used for this spell and combined it with a Greek one, sort of. Athena though back, biting her lip.

I won't keep you from your task any longer. I just hope it works...

So Athena began to work, and the ribbon actually began to fade away, but, unknown to Fenrir, another, more subtle spell was taking its place.

Fenrir stretched luxuriously as soon as he felt the ribbon being removed. Now he could speak, and had all of his strength back, he wished to leave Asgard. In Asgard, he could only take the form of the gigantic wolf, but in Midgard he also had a human aspect.

She was surprised he kept his side of the bargain. Perhaps she didn't look very tasty, or something. Whatever it was, Athena was glad not to have to reveal the spell to him just yet.
