Loki just didn't see why Freya was so keen on marriage anyway; it was just a piece of paper and was basically worthless unless the relationship was strong. And if the relationship was strong, then what was the point of marriage? With two failed marriages behind him; he'd left his first wife to marry Sigyn cuz she'd begged him to due to being pregnant; he wasn't overly keen on doing so again.

Freya thought that marriage was symbolic, and that it was a way of showing your love and commitment to your partner. Love was an important thing in Freya's mind, and Loki not wanting to show his love for her in marriage, made her assume that he didn't love her or didn't think/want he'd be with her forever. That hurt Freya a lot, but it's not like she could do anything about it. Talking to Loki about things like that always ended in an argument, and she couldn't leave Loki for somebody else for a couple of reasons: one, she loved him, and two, he wouldn't let her.

Loki just was wary of rushing into marriage, and the more he was pressured about it, the more he dug his heels in. He was also sick of constantly having to reassure Freya that he loved her, and felt taken for granted a lot of the time.

Freya wouldn't understand why he'd feel taken for granted; he did get everything he wanted in the long run. It seemed to Freya that everything she wanted was unattainable with Loki. She also felt that she didn't even have the right to free speech anymore, since Loki argued every point. Trying to make a compromise between them was like trying to place a full cup of water on a raging bull and not spill it; it was basically impossible unless they both calmed down and relaxed.
