Loki knew that once he shifted form, the tree would break apart and the rope would, too; enchanted or not, it could not stand against the being who he planned to become. The problem was, he would have to wait until the woman's attention was entirely focussed on Svana, or else he'd lose the element of surprise. He feigned fainting while the woman was tying him to the tree.

Eventually, she did turn her attention to Svana, who was shaking so badly that she looked like a person on the brink of hypothermia.
The womn fastened a necklace on Svana, and Svana stopped shaking, stopped moving in every way but breathing. As if the girl was a doll, the woman positioned Svana in the grass so that she was laiyng on her back, her arms and legs spread out. ![]() |

She took some clear liquid with the consstency of syrup and smeared it on Svana's forehead and collar bone. Then, she took out some sort of knife, but it wasn't made with metal. One could almost mistake it for a dark red glass, except for the way it glowed.

Loki changed form, taking the shape of his son Jormungand, the immense serpent. The rope shattered and the tree splintered, unable to stand against the giant snake. Loki sank his fangs into the woman's body, injecting her with deadly venom.
