As cliche' as it is to say, I love 80's rap, and some from the 90's...
Run DMC L.L. Cool J N.W.A Public Enemy Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five Doug E. Fresh Beastie Boys Songs back then talked mostly about life issue's, dance moves, or they were songs about the artist. Then in the mid 80's through the mid 90's a lot more political rap songs came into play. I mean even back then then there were songs about sex, drugs, and prostitutes, but most of them were cheeky and less vulgar, though some of them were able to slip in those subjects without totally killing it... Songs like "Lets talk about se.x" and "push it" - salt N' pepa "Baby got back" -sir mix alot. "Me so Hor.ny" and "The Fu.ck shop" - 2 live Crew "Fu.ck the cops" - N.W.A Now a days there really isn't any dignity in rap, really in too much music anymore. But now its really just awful, I watch a lot of about artist from other decades, and a lot of rap artist from the 70-mid 90's don't even listen to new rap because it degrades the genre. |
