Default † Silent Hill † - 06-20-2007, 08:11 AM

My nephew and I went to see this long awaited movie, the day it opened in theatres. We made it our priority to do so! I will admit that I was not so accepting of the way the movie was going. Many parts did not go according to the video game and I was already giving them a thumbs down for that. But, I was still enjoying it. The scenes were just as scary as the game and it kept me at the edge of my seat (sort of speak) for the next scenes. At one point in the movie, I was startled! That was funny. I never jump or anything, when watching horror movies. Now that right there told me this movie was e-x-c-e-l-l-e-n-t!

At the end of the movie, this guy in the row in front of us, started talking to us. We discussed the movie and he let me know that the movie was based on SH1 and SH2 games. That explains it (I've only played SH1 and there are 4 games in total)!

If you're not familiar with the video game, you will be confused about things that are going on in the movie. I do recommend playing the video games and/or doing a little research on the stories for them. That way you will not be at a loss and you will enjoy the movie a lot more

I hope there are more people here that have seen and enjoyed this movie (and game will be a plus!). I would love to read what everyone has to say about this great movie. I would ask what parts and characters were your favorite, but your answers and mine, may be spoilers to those that have not seen it yet (so don't post any spoilers!).

I absolutely loved it. My nephew loved it. And we cannot wait for the sequel! Silent Hill is definitely a lot better than the Resident Evil movies.

I saw bits and snatches of the movie, and I watched my mom play the second SH. (Well, most of it, anyway.)

The main thing that irritated me most was that Harry Mason wasn't the protagonist in the movie, and that they threw Pyramid Head in even though he wasn't in the first game.

Though, I have to admit I was pretty impressed with the costume. That looked friggen cool. Except for the part where he tore that one girl apart... yuuck.

Other than those two things, I thought it was pretty cool. The whole Alessa on Bed of Barbed Wire was pretty cool too - is it wrong to find that little smile she had funny? - but I didn't quite understand who that one girl was that made Sharon pass out at the end. Was that Alessa's darkness or something? *blink*

And yes, it WAS better than the Resident Evil movies (which completely butchered the story of the original game and Resident Evil 3. NEMESIS WAS A MONSTER, NOT A GENETICALLY ALTERED PERSON!!)

I think that DarkAlessa was actually Justice. Seriously.
Because she said she had many names, or something like that. And the police dude said that there was many kinds of justice, like Man's Justice and God's Justice, so...

And Wolfie, they put in Pyramid Head because he's an icon of Silent Hill as both a punisher of the town(filmwise) and a creation of the protagonist's own mind to try, in a sick way, help him(gamewise).

Wolfie, if I remember correctly, I'm fairly certain it was Alessa, who wasn't exactly Cheryl's(or Sharon in the movie) dark form, but really a girl who was completely destroyed inside. I can't blame her because how would you feel being burned alive after refusing to give birth to a demon? I wouldn't feel too pleasant towards anyone either. Anyways, the passing out I suppose was meant to show them rejoining again into "Heather"(SH3) because Alessa and Cheryl were two halves of one girl basically.

Pyramid Head was for the large-part included because he is one of the most popular SH monsters. He's meant to symbolize an executioner, but goes around righting wrongs in a sense and punishing those who have done evil. In the movie they cut a lot of the sexual undertones that were associated with this character, but they wouldn't have made sense anyways without James(SH2).

I saw the movie when it came out. I really want to play the veido games. But to me, the movie was not that confusing without the veido games. So hopefully, i will get to play those 4 silent hill games. But its kinda sad that I usally finish one game in a week.(I finished the first Res. Evil A few years ago in 5 days!)

Wow, I didn't think there would be any replies to this thread ~ thanks everyone! I really enjoyed reading your input. A lot of people I know that did go see the movie said they hated it or they just didn't understand it ~ none of them had played the games either. I like watching horror flicks, but there are only a few that make my heart jump out of my chest (sort of speak). The Exorcist was the first to ever scare the loo out of me and now, Silent Hill is in that list ;] I can honestly say...SH (the movie) gives me nightmares, each and every time I watch it. As for the game, it spooks me too and I have to pause now and then, before I continue with the game

I'll admit that I never actually even got five minutes into the game. After having nightmares after my extreme failure I did a lot of research to make up for the fact that I couldn't do it. I just dislike not knowing how things turn out. I must say that it certainly did help a lot with my understanding of Silent Hill when it later came out.

The only one I played was SH 4; I got stuck in the water prison the first time you go through the levels. It stunk.

I think I pressed the wrong button or something.

Anyway, I realize that they put him in as a righter of wrongs, but it still bothered me a bit.

Actually, it's usually the opposite. Play the game before you judge it, k?

And for the record, the games were out BEFORE THE MOVIES. WAY BEFORE.
