Default Holly's Dollies - 09-27-2011, 03:29 PM

I made a pixel art doll. I used to (years ago) sometimes pixel my own hair and clothes onto dolls I made in dollmakers. I saw other pixel dolls on this site and wanted to try pixeling my own doll using a base. My first one's really simple, because I'm trying to get into the hang of things again. Also, since updating my computer to Windows 7, the Paint program is so different! It was much easier on XP...

Base by chocotini on deviantart.

Tell me what you think - I could always use the help when I try another doll.

This is better than a lot of first attempts or returns attempts I see. ^^

A few tips, though; the hair is very blocky; it looks like you started out with the darkest shade and blocked in lights. I would instead recommend starting with a middle shade and working outward... also, the hair was small highlights to represent shine, and everybody likes shiny hair. ^^

Thanks for the advice, spirit_queen. I think I'm actually going to take the other advice you gave to me in your doll thread and look at some tutorials.

...

I made a new doll using tutorials (and palettes) from watermelon-bubblegum.co.uk

The base is by mariiiis-dolls.deviantart.com

She's pretty. The background is bad, but I wanted to add something.

This is REALLY good! Way better than my tries for the first couple years! Very impressive!

Thanks.

Well, I used to pixel clothes and hair for my dollmaker dolls, but it's been a while. I guess I'm getting back into the swing of things... That, or I follow tutorial instruction well. I just tried my best to do what it told me. I've never done balloons, so they aren't too good either. The doll took me most of my freetime today; I must have tried fixing things several times.

Much better! Th dress has great folds, and the hais has nicer highlights!

The balloon would be smoother in the shadows with a smaller, more concentrated highlight.
