Doctorwho_gal, for someone whose so concearned about feminism and the exploitation of women, so sure seem to be very old fashioned.
Feminism is about equality and the ability to choose. To choose one's career, to choose how one represents herself. If a woman wants to get her **** out in a magazine, then all the power to her. Thats the point of feminism. Being told that one cannot do certian things because of the way a man might see her, is taking a huge step back. |

Honestly it doesn't bother me the slightest. Men just are curious like we are. Our Televisions have naked woman on it all the time plus suggesting sexual activity even in our Bavarian beer commercials.I wouldn't have it any other way because sex sells always has and always will. If thats the measures people want to take to sell a magazine or a product or catch a reader's attention its a killer way to do so. certainly catches my eye when I go into a drug store tehe. For example in the year of 1990 on the 4th of July Pepsi came out with cool designs to celebrate for the occasion celebrated in the U.S. One of them looked like this. Please take a good look at the cans you should see the word sex. These pepsi cans were supposed to be laid out in the market like this to see how many people would buy it out of all the designs pepsi created for the event. This on obviously one. http://www.snopes.com/business/graphics/pepsisex.jpg so this goes to show as one example that even words work as a seller. Nothing more nothing less. The models on the magazine only do it for the money. I am pretty sure if every one in this forum was confident enough and was paid enough would do so too. If my boyfriend was to look at them I just look at them with him theres nothing shameful about it at all. A woman's body is a lot more visually appealing and well is beautiful to look at. What does bother me though is female artists taking their clothes off in videos its like what the hell the song is completely unrelated to taking your clothes off? Really just doesn't make sense otherwise its fine. |

Um, delly, your image isn't working? O.o
As I said, I don't care which way what other women do with their lives. Doesn't bother me in the slightest, though it does if they're acting so trashy it's disgusting (EG wearing loads of makeup, crappily dyed hair, etc.). I KNOW THE PIECES FIT, CAUSE I WATCHED THEM FALL AWAY, MILDEWED AND SMOLDERING.
FUNDAMENTAL DIFFERING, PURE INTENTION JUXTAPOSED WILL SET TWO LOVERS' SOULS IN MOTION. DISINTEGRATING AS IT GOES, TESTING OUR COMMNICATION. THE LIGHT THAT FUELED OUR FIRE THEN HAS BURNED A HOLE BETWEEN US SO WE CANNOT SEE TO REACH AN END... Tool |

I think it depends on the woman.
I mean, I could handle dirt magazines, but I really hate fullscale P*rn because usually the women in it are essentially coerced into doing things they're not comfortable with or were abused when they were younger. It's sad, but it's true. "Without heroes we are all plain people and don't know how far we can go." -Bernard Malamud |

I agree with you about the hardcore p*rn; especially the type that has very young girls in it. That's sick and exploitative; a lot of them were probably very young when they started. I also hate the kind that depicts women being abused or tortured; I think it's very dangerous as serial killers tend to start out looking at that kind of p*rn.

What's that word for a person who finds death sexy? Can't remember... but, yes, the abuse thing definitely encourages things like that, and rape; a lot of the time, raspists are turned on by the fear of their victim, and portraying abuse as sexy in a mag is just encouraging that. Yuck. -.-
Well, Miranada, sadly, the U.S. isn't as concerned about the children seeing it. There are not hard-core p*rn in the grocery stores, but there are mags in plain sight that boast about artcicles like 'how to look **** nekkid' and 'wild movs he'll love' where a kid can see them. I've seen it at Wal-Mart and Giant Eagle. -.- There are only one or two like that, and the rest are either celeb gossip or cooking and healthy living mags, at least; America hasn't gone ALL bad... yet... ![]() |

I have no problem whatsoever with those magazines and don't feel they are exploited in any way. I even have looked at my boyfriend's stuff when I've stumbled across them in his room or on the computer and have a collection of pictures myself. Its tasteful and sexy, nothing less than that. I'll even admit that I've been interested in that sort of thing for a while, though I only do it for my boyfriend. I find it incredibly hot to be looked at and know that he really enjoys it.
I do, on the other hand, feel that it is exploitation if the woman in question is not paid or was coerced/abused into it. For those who haven't heard of this, a lot of rap videos have a mature video version too and in them there are a lot of women(typically ********s) turning themselves into sex objects. They rarely get paid, they only do it in hopes of becoming a big time video girl. That is exploitation, not these magazines which are done tastefully. These magazines celebrate the sexuality and sex appeal of women, not turns them into an object just meant to be there for a man's pleasure. |
