Default Differences between Boys and Girls.... - 02-01-2008, 11:00 AM

I've been wondering...boys traditionaly and generally like blue, sports that kinda thing and girl are seen to like make-up,pink,clothes that kinda thing...Of course thats not always true but in general we follow that pattern...anyway..do you think being attracted to blue/pink ect depending on what gender you are is somthing thats pushed on people by society or is it more of an instinct..?It must be the first one, right?

There is a theory which states that if ever
anybody discovers exactly what the Universe
is for and why it is here, it will instantly
disappear and be replaced by something
even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

It is for sure pushed on by society and family really.
Cause we associate more feminine things like Pink and barbies with young girls and toy trucks and blue with boys which is true its not always the case.

I really hate when for example my father would get mad at my nephew playing with a barbie cause its a " girl toy" . well yes it was made for girls but I am pretty sure the toy company could care less on who is playing with them as long as they are making money .

I totally disagree with how society does this to our younger generation possibly helping create people who become homophobic . I myself love fixing cars and I wear make up and I like pink and blue. I love getting muddy and I am not the type to be wearing a dress . Society is horrible in that manner of creating a designated way for a male and female to look and act a particular way .

It's socialisation. My best friend as a child liked to play with Cindy and wear pink, I liked Transformers and wearing boys' clothes. We both were allowed to be ourselves. It's like people who throw a fit if a boy wants to study hairdressing or cook for a living, even tho there are loads of male hairdressers and chefs. The same goes for people who say that girls can't be mechanics or footballers.

Or that a woman shouldn't go into the military, although loads of them do. I personally want to go into the Air Force and become an officer.

Being single doesn't make you weak, it means that you are strong enough to be on your own; Being alone could be a good thing, because there is no drama involved in your life, no pain, and free to do what ever you want. Life is too short to be chasing those who aren't even worth fighting for, you are worth more than that.

I want to go into videogame design or something of the sort; everytime someone asks me what I want to do and I tell them that, they look at me like I've sprouted 3 extra heads. -.-

I stare at the girl in the mirror: T-shirt, torn up jeans, no beauty queen.
But the way that you see me, you get underneath me, and all my defenses just fall away, fall away.
I am beautiful with you, even in the darkest part of me. I am beautiful with you;
Make it feel the way it's supposed to be!

You're here with me: Just show me this and I'll believe I am beautiful with you!

The pink and blue color coding has been enforced on us since our birth. Think about the babies just born in hospitals. Who wears the pink, who wears the blue?
This is true for the styles we wear, and even for how we act. Think how women are generalized as more emotional than men. Is that biological? NO! Men are raised to believe that they are not allowed to show emotion.
This happens in all sorts of aspects in our lives, and in all sorts of societies across the globe.
It is a very insightful subject, and there are some people that have college degrees that don't understand this subject. I am glad that you are raising this issue and that people are very aware of the idea of socialization!

Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. Oscar Wilde

Ahh man, year 11 psychology memories.

According to the textbook, its due to what we were exposed to early on in life, little girls are wrapped in pink blankets and little boys in blue, little girls are sat infront of Dora The Explorer and little boys are say infront of Thomas The Tank Engine. However, when they begin socialising with other children, they want to fit in, its human instinct to please other people, so they take interest in what someone else likes and from there their interests grow and stick.

I don't care what people think of me. If somebody doesn't like me for who I am, so what. That's their problem.

When I tell people that I'm going into the Air Force, they do one of three things. 1.) Look at me with disbelief in their eyes and laugh or 2.) respect me and tell me how amazing that is. And 3.) Try and talk me out of it.

Never happened to me. Maybe cuz of my Aspergers, but I've never wanted to fit in. I refused all attempts to make me more ladylike; I hated wearing dresses, broke any dolls that were given to me and lumbered around like a baby elephant in ballet classes. The only dress I ever wanted to wear was one my granny made me; it was plain red without any frills, bows or girly patterns. I lived in boys clothes for years and played with toy cars, Transformers and guns. The only toys I had that were girly were My Little Ponies, and that was more to do with a love of horses than of girly stuff.

However, now I regularly wear makeup and skirts; I wear heels, I like to pamper myself; I don't think not being girly as a child made the slightest bit of difference; probably cuz my mum just let me get on with it instead of trying to force me to be like other girls of my age. Some parents do that and it makes me sad. Who cares if your little boy likes to play with his sister's toy kitchen instead of with guns? You should love them anyway, however they turn out.

Sorry Kiani, but I have to disagree as well. If I played with my brothers Hot wheels, which I did, it was only because I did not want him to have them. I used to love playing in the frilliest dresses I could find. I was satisfied with telling my arch rival (a boy from down the street) that he just got beat by a girl running in a dress and high heels.

And if you want a real difference and an explanation on the blue pink thing, take an art class. Boys are not near as curvy and are painted wearing colors that stop, like blue. Girls are curvier and and have softer skin, usually, and are painted wearing soft color like pink because it blends better. Not to say you should wear a specific color but, tuxedos are black and wedding gowns are white for a reason.

^^ha, the opinion of an artist...^^
