im glad im not the only one on the board who is :[. my dad was raised by a heavy crazy christian family and as was my mom. They tried to raise me in a church culture(right word :P?) but i just can't make myself believe no matter how much i want to. I want to believe somewhat because i don't want to die knowing that I won't ever see anyone again. (in the same mind if that makes sense?? ) But I am researching buddhism (buddhism for dummies for that matter and the translated Tibetan book of the dead) and i think that if i was not to be atheist then i would be (my beliefs) most closely related to buddhism. It's just hard for me to believe any of the stories in the bible unless they were tall tales(or just a story that grew into something big) or just a metaphoric story.

Well, this sounds dark, but many Christians believe after death your memory is wiped, not that you will remember everyone after you die or meet together. I can't remember the part of the Bible that they say claims this, but they are certain that after death, God will wipe your memory to relieve you of the pain of leaving your loved ones.

Bit strange to me personally. I wouldn't want to forget the people I love, even if it pained me to know we are not together. It just seems terrible to me, especially since I wouldn't be a person anymore, just a pod.

In fact, I believe that the moment you die, you wake up fully conscious in either Heaven or Hell, with full memory of how you got there, where you came from, and what you experienced.

I don't believe that either heaven or hell exists; it's just an easy way of frightening people into behaving themselves. Now, as an atheist, if I follow a moral code, that makes me a good person; in some ways, a better person than someone who's only doing good cuz God tells them to. I have also known some terrible hypocrites over the years, who are proud Christians, yet don't behave very "christian" at all.

I have lots of atheist and even a few satanist friends at school, and I do not shove my beliefs down their throat, thught I do let them know what I believe and ask them not to bash my religion right in front of me. (By bashing I mean really bashing, not pointing out things they simply do not understand/agree with; I encourage that, almost, because it makes me think about what I believe and why.)

I was raised agnostic by my mother and my father is an atheist.We mainly just belive in spirituality.

I actually think I'm somewhat atheist because knowing that nothing good nor bad had been happening lately makes me believe that there really isn't a God or Devil or whatever.I think that when you die,your memory is not wiped,but if you come back in to Earth or you're rencarnated,your memory is patially or fully wiped and then yo start from scratch with your new family.I'm part Christian,but dont believe in it that much.I just dont see the point in it.

I agree entirely.Ppl say that you dont always have to do what you're told to do,so what makes it seem ok for "him" to tell you to do so.

I think it must be one of those more extreme views. I know I don't believe it as a universalist. Seems a bit odd since you would never understand why you are getting what you got in the afterlife.

Yeah, it is. O.o The Bible doesn't actually say that, it only says that all the suffering you've been through on earth won't happen in Heaven... some people just like to take that to extremes and interpret it a certain way.

I'm atheist and I believe in the Big Bang and Evolution. I'm sorry but I just cannot comprehend the Creationism idea. Just like many can't comprehend evolution. I respect ALL religions but I hate when people don't respect my non-religion.
