And, like I said in another post, cruel treatment in prison is only going to create more criminals. We're past the stage where prisoners stay in rat infested cells and end up strangling to death.

To tell the truth, the old systems of execution- firing squad, guillotine, hanging, beheading- were not as "quick and painless" as one might expect. It really depended on your status- a noble was given a freshly sharpened sword, a commoner was given a dull axe, which, as one might imagine, could take quite a long time to cut through completely. Nearly Headless Nick's story, from the Harry Potter series, is unfortunately not unique. The downfalls of a firing squad are obvious, as one may or may not die immediately if the aim is off. The guillotine's effectiveness depended on its construction and the sharpness of its blade. Hanging, though most of the time will break the neck upon drop, will sometimes simply suffocate, or the rope may even slide loose, forcing a re-hanging. It also depended on the weather, quality of construction of the gallows, etc. Imagine having to go through that not once, but twice or perhaps a third time.

These are just some of the reasons why humans have looked for more "humane" styles of execution. The electric chair was supposed to be more humane, but as detailed in The Green Mile, a number of things can and has gone wrong in the past. Now lethal injection is said to be inhumane as well because of body chemistry. What system of execution would cause immediate death without pain or suffering? None has been found yet, apparently.

Actually, hanging done the proper way using the system of long drops causes instant death by dislocation of the neck. It was the old method that was inhumane; causing a criminal to strangle slowly to death on the end of the rope. And I have researched it, believe me; I have books on the subject.

is it wrong for me not to believe in the death penalty
i believe it is wrong
Sister helen came from america to britain
and she had an amazing inspirational speech.
She suggests that should it be right
" a life for a life "
in a way yes, but in another no
arnt you just as bad for killing the person on a death penalti
yes the person should suffer for there wrong ness
but they shouldn't be put to death
hope i dont cause any arguments
but wanted to get my point across

life isint about looking into the past
its about looking towards the future
it is not about keeping the same friends
its about making so many more
i think you should live each day
as though it was your last
and then when you are older
you can look on all the things which made
you... yourself
and stick your head up and be proud
coz baybee... dont change for any1

So you'd prefer it if a murderer was released, and immediately killed again? If he'd been executed, that person would be still alive. What about the monsters who rape and kill children? Or the men who don't see anything wrong with beating their wives to death?

But, our taxes are still going to pay for these monsters. Better to kill them and be done with it.

Then you're a da.mn fool. Some sickos get out on "good behavior", even when they were promised no probation.

I stare at the girl in the mirror: T-shirt, torn up jeans, no beauty queen.
But the way that you see me, you get underneath me, and all my defenses just fall away, fall away.
I am beautiful with you, even in the darkest part of me. I am beautiful with you;
Make it feel the way it's supposed to be!

You're here with me: Just show me this and I'll believe I am beautiful with you!

There were these two rapists - a woman and her husband - and the woman was let out a jail on good behaviour. They raped and killed tons of girls. Then they kept her identity a secret from the people in her community.

How would you feel if there was secretly a rapist in your community? What if they were your next door neighbour?

They would be better off dead by execution most likely because if they were found out, they would DEFINITELY be killed by the more normal people...

And if they killed someone, they should feel what it was like... in a way.

Stupid no death penalty in Canada...

This serial killer named Arthur Shawcrosse was jailed for the rape and murder of two children. He was released... and started a series of murders, where he murdered prostitutes, often sexually assaulting them before and after death. If he'd been executed for the murders of the children, those victims would still be alive.
