Red face Taking parts from Dollmakers?? - 04-02-2010, 04:34 PM

It it okay, if I wanted to make my own doll maker, to take pictures and parts from the free doll makers on here (Sailor moon, princess, etc) and save the pictures and reupload them to my site? Is that okay? PS- I don't need bases- just the clothes that go on them... well, one base. But just one

I wouldn't recommend it; that's pretty much image theft as you are not asking first. Especially since you're talking about the specialist Sailor Moon and Princess dollmakers, where the clothes and props were drawn and made especially for those makers. Just draw your own props, that would be best.

Thanks, but I can't draw... I'm wondering who I can ask to get permission? Would it be okay if I credited TDP and linked back to it? If I decided to use the images anyway, would I get sued or go to jail? What about if I took the props and edited them (like recolored them) And made them unique? Then would it be ok?

FYI, the part from Terms & Conditions about this:
Quote:
Restrictions on Use of Materials.
No copyrighted materials on the Site may be copied, reproduced, distributed, modified, republished, uploaded, posted or transmitted in any way, without the prior written permission of the owner, except as follows: you may download one copy of the material on one computer for your personal, noncommercial home use only, provided you do not delete or change any copyright, trademark or other proprietary notices. Modifications or use of the materials for any other purpose violates the intellectual property rights and other rights of the owner. You further agree that you will not disassemble, decompile, reverse engineer or otherwise modify the Material. Any unauthorized or prohibited use may subject the offender to civil liability and criminal prosecution under applicable federal and state laws.
So yes, technically you could be sued for this, but for various reasons, it is highly unlikely that that will actually happen.

Personally, I wouldn't advise you to go ahead with this. Regardless of your liability to get sued, what's the point of making a dollmaker if you're only going to be using props that are already on other dollmakers?
