Default Contest guidelines - 05-21-2011, 09:12 AM

Although the mainsite contest section has now been fixed, we've decided to continue allowing people to post their contests here to encourage activity. As such, I've also come up with some guidelines regarding hosting contests in this forum.

- Types of contest
You can hold contests for handdrawn or dollmaker dolls, or for other kinds of art. Please keep it in the realm of graphic art though; if you want to host a writing contest, you should probably take it to our writing forum.

- No more than one contest per person
You may not host more than one contest at a time. If your previous contest hasn't finished yet, please don't open a new one.

- No repeat themes
Don't start a contest with the same (or very similar) theme as one that is already running or finished recently (within the last two months). This goes for both contests in this forum and the official Handdrawn/Dollmaker contest threads.

- Time limits
Your contest will be locked if a week has passed since your set closing date and you haven't posted the winners/awards or notified of an extension. If you come back, you can ask for the thread to be reopened so you can post the winners.

When hosting contests, you should include the following:
1. Contest type - handdrawn, dollmaker or other
2. The theme of the contest
Your contest must have a theme. It can be something general (such as fantasy or the elements) or specific (such as characters from a certain show), but it can't be just "post your best doll". This should be included in the thread title.
3. A deadline
You should set a deadline for your contest, though you may extend it if a lot of people express interest.
4. The method of judging
State whether you are planning to have a public poll, use a panel of judges, or judge the contest yourself (or a combination of those, such as separate judge's choice and public's choice awards).
5. Any additional requirements/rules
Such as whether animation is allowed or not, whether reference images should be used, how many entries per person are allowed, etc.

When entering contests
1. Don't enter anything not made by you
* In the case of handdrawn contests, this includes taking parts of other people's dolls, recolouring other people's dolls, etc, and it's not allowed even if you have permission from the original artist. With the exception of the base and props (if applicable), the doll should be made completely by yourself.
* In the case of dollmaker contests, this means using any doll put together by someone else.
* In some contests, it might be permissible to use stock images or backgrounds. In that case, remember to give credit for all the images used.
2. Follow all the rules the contest host sets out
3. Give credit where credit is due
See the dolling etiquette thread for some info about giving credit.
