Default Miss TDP Handdrawn-Finale! - 12-19-2009, 01:25 PM

Welcome to the first ever Miss TDP competition! Before continuing to the theme for our grand finale, we ask that all members read the following rules and procedures if they are competing.

The public has decided and after a close race, we now must say goodbye to competitor Elanorea. Congrats to her for working so hard! Congrats are also due to our final two contestants, who are the only ones allowed to post here:
  • Aussiemum777
  • TheHayleyDoll
THIS IS NOT A DISCUSSION THREAD NOR THE PLACE TO SUBMIT DOLLMAKER ENTRIES! Before you post here, I suggest you stop. All non-entry posts will be deleted. If you have questions, direct them to Silver_Wolf_Kitty. If you want to discuss the contest, the official Miss TDP clique(found here) is suggested.

Rules
1. Character. When entering Miss TDP, you need to enter with one character and stay with it the entire time. This means that your doll’s hair, eye, and skin colour must remain the same throughout, unless otherwise stated in the round theme.
2. Base. You must use the same base set throughout, so pick one with a variety of poses. This base should also be medium in size for handdrawn dollers (comparable in size to the "Moe" bases here: DHF : Doll on the Hill Factory). Dollmaker users should use the shuni style base.
3. Theft. No stealing the work of another. This applies to both handdrawn and dollmaker participants, so do not submit a doll that someone else made or, for handdrawn dollers, mix and match pieces of completed dolls that are not your own. All work should be original and failure to comply will result in disqualification.
4. Props. Props and backgrounds are encouraged, but should not be massive. We will ask too large of entries to reduce their size, so be reasonable.
5. Transparency. We ask that all dolls have transparent background and is a GIF file. If you don’t know how to do this, see the following thread: How to Make Backgrounds Transparent
6. Forbidden. Sexually explicit, nudity(artistic nudity must be okayed first by Silver_Wolf_Kitty), or overly bloody dolls are forbidden. Entering one could result in disqualification.
7. Theme. Every doll should relate to the theme. While we encourage creativity, failure to keep with the theme can get you eliminated automatically that round.
8. Judges. No one is allowed to use friendship or promises to sway a judge’s decision. Threats, bribery, and attempts to interfere or discover the judge’s decisions in anyway will result in disqualification. Arguing with the judges can result in an automatic elimination.
9. Competing. You can only submit one entry for each cometition, so choose wisely. The rules are being changed to allow crossover, but we ask that handdrawn dollers stick to the dollmakers if they are inclined to compete in that arena.
10. Animation. Animation is forbidden in the competition. We understand that many users like glitter, blinking, etc, but it takes away from the creativity and creates an unequal playing field for those who can’t animate.

Procedures
The audition round procedures are no longer in place, these are the procedures that will be followed in the future.

1. Participants enter a doll every two weeks in the set thread. They may enter it sooner, however further edits are not allowed after the doll is entered. No matter what, the two weeks are a guaranteed time slot(unless all entries are received before it).
2. Any participants who fail to meet this deadline will be eliminated. Deadlines are not being extended for anyone, so do not ask. Special extensions may be asked in the event of a long trip or medical/family emergency, but you must contact Silver_Wolf_Kitty immediately if this occurs.
3. After two weeks(or when all dolls are entered), the judges will then provide critique on each entry and select a bottom two for the round.
4. Several days are given for voting on who should stay. Voting will be a public affair, but you shouldn’t worry about hurting feelings. All you have to do is post in the voting thread with the name of the participant who you think should stay in the competition. You may provide an explanation, but that is up to you.
5. Votes are counted and the bottom participant is eliminated, then the next round begins.

Theme
The theme for our finale is "Formal Wear". We saw some cute dresses in the audition round, but not lets see just how dazzling you guys can really be. Make sure you take your time--this doll will be immortalized in your awards and will be displayed on the forums as well. Clearly no major character edits are allowed--this is your final shining moment and its only fair that we see the character that you started out with.

When your doll is ready, we ask participants to post their handdrawn doll in this thread. The finale will close the evening of December 30th! After that, the judges will submit their critiques and then public voting for our Miss TDP Handdrawn will begin! The winner will be announced on January 3rd on here and in the Dollsters monthly newsletter. At that time we will reveal the special prizes for our winners and the runner ups!

Character-Gabriel
Base credit- GigideMortimer on deviantART

I finally finished Gabriel, I wanted to do more on the background last night but sleep got the better of me,I also didnt have time to do my usual check of finer details, so if there are any stray pixels anywhere on my doll then thats why

Gabriel is in her finest gown standing on the balcony overlooking the city of tropical Queensland, she decided to take a holiday in one of her favorite places.
After all of the apperances that she had to make in this contest, it has been a busy time for her but she has enjoyed every minute of it and.....win or lose she knows that she has done her best and thats all that she can do

Thanks to everyone that has voted for my past dolls I appreciate it a lot and it means the world to me knowing my friends have supported me throughout this whole contest, it has been a fun learning experience for me, I am actually surprised that I made it this far..there has been some awesome competition...Well done to everyone who participated!

Judges' Critiques
First off, congratulations on making it to the finals.

Ok, let me say that this doll is very beautiful and you obviously spent lots of time on it. However, there are some things that I think you should have done different. For one, the color scheme. The dress is purple with white, so why does she have a pink shaw behind her? It should have been either white or purple or the dress should have been pink and purple. I like how you didn't add a necklace or earrings, as that would have been a little bit to much around that area. I like the background, especially the moon. Overall, very good job on this doll as well as the entire competition.

I want to personally congratulate you on making it this far as the clear underdog in the competition. I don't think it was something anyone expected, but your improvements have definately earned you this place.

Now, on to your doll. I see some new techniques here that you hadn't previously used, particularly on the skirt. The dithering was a nice touch and I think its a technique you should use further. Your skirt folds are also beautiful, something that any member on here should look to as an example for what can be done with beautiful shaping. The one major shading issue in the skirt though is you did not shade the inside as well and instead used one color, making it look unfinished. Your technique issues really begin in the waist though. Here, your folds are not curved enough. Curving them will follow your natural waist. I have an issue too with the colour you chose for the shawl, which I think would've been better done in a dark purple rather than a pink. I can see how the pink ties with the lone flower, but those probably would've been better off white to keep things clean. A full background was a nice touch, definitely in line with your own personal style.

Overall, during the competition, I believe you have experienced the most growth as a competitor and a doller. You have taken our critiques and utilized them in order to improve your entries constantly, giving us surprises and ideas that many of us haven't seen before. In the future, I would like you to continue this growth. I think you should focus on the shading style you used in the skirt, it holds the most promise and looks as if a long-time doller did it. Also, I think you should continue to develop your backgrounds and scenes. These are things that your dolls frequently contain and give you a unique touch since many dollers don't focus as much on a story as you have.

Good luck in the voting!

Character: Mandy
Base: nicolabear on deviantART

Mandy's on the red carpet, strutting her stuff. :P

I know it's not as extravagant as Aussie's is (congrats to her, btw! You've done great. =D), but I wanted to stay a little more simple, because that's just my style of dolling and I wanted to be true to myself. I actually did make a more fancy background, and it was pretty, but it wasn't who I am as a doller. It wasn't the competitor who got this far in the competition. ^_^

Congrats to everyone else who participated. I had no idea I was going to get this far with such fierce competition. =D

Judges' Critiques
Let me first say congratulations on making it into the finals.

I like how you stayed simple with this doll as I think it shines more with the simpliticy of the doll than anything else. I love the dress. Even though it is simple, I feel like its something that I could actually see on the red carpet today. I like how bouncy and flowy it looks. I love the make-up and the mask that she is wearing. The red carpet also looks nice, though I think it would have looked nicer with a pattern of some sort. I have to say though, I don't like the bow. It just seems so out of place. Its a nice looking bow, it just isn't right for this scene. Overall, very nice job on this doll and great job in the competition.

Hayley, I am glad to see you stuck with your style. Its important to let everyone see you shine through, as well as your techniques, considering this is what we have seen throughout.

I'm truthfully shocked that you have since an intricate background since you typically utilize abstract shapes, but its a good thing here. A full background, I feel, would've been distracting, especially considering the unusual dress shape and the bold color choices. My one picky point is the carpet seems vertical for some reason rather than like its underneath her feet. This could be the edging or the simple shading on it that has given it this effect. I love that dress! The design concept is brilliant and bold, something that you have been throughout this competition.

I truthfully have no idea where you are going to take this forum in terms of dolling, but I expect whatever path you choose, you will take it by storm. Good luck in the voting!
