Post Is it too young to date at age 10? - 09-26-2008, 11:42 PM

Well I am 10 years old first off. And I like guys. Well pretty much I just want to know, is that age to young to date? Please let me know! Love, Cat (real name Delaney)

In my opinion, it is. You may like boys, but you're far too young to know what love is, and what dating really is. Dating is going places with a boy, not just sitting next to him at lunch and holding hands. Just don't bother about dating or anything like that at the moment and just enjoy being a kid and being friends with boys. In any case, boys at that age are far too immature for anything more than that.

Oh no. Not this thread again. O.o

Yes, it's too young. What you feel for boys now is puppy love, a 'crush'. I completely agree with Miranda. Holding hands and sitting next to each other isn't dating. Dating is actually going on dates. If it was the first part, I'd be a major player. xD Anyway, I'd say wait until high school. It may seem like a long wait, but by that time you'll be ready to date, and can actually go out with your "boyfriends" without parent supervision.

Like my Home-Career skills teacher says, "You're not emotionally ready to date. You should wait until you're at least 16 years old."

She's dead on the money. XD

Dating is physically going out on dates, such as going out to dinner, going to a cafe or pub, going to the cinema or a gig. It is not going round a boy's house, or sitting next to him at lunch. That is what you do with your friends, and you don't call your female friends girlfs, do you?

Heh, my grandma calls them girlfriends :]
I think it is healthy to have a relationship with a boy, i.e. close friendship, hugs, maybe even a hand hold. But its not really 'dating'... and you shouldn't or can't be doing things that people that are 'dating' do.
Basically just restating what people above have stated, but wanted to let you know that's where I stand.

I'm 12 and my mom says I can MAYBE go on group dates. But not until 8th grade. And i agree with her. I have a few crushes but im not mature enough to handle a relationship. And plus I wouldn't my guy friends feelings cause a couple of them like me but I don't like them and I don't want to hurt our friendship. But I have a friend in 5th grade named Natalie and she just got a new boyf. I'm like her big sister. We go to church together and hang out. It wouldn't worry me so much if it was just holding hands on the playground. But no! they have to go out! It just bugs me that this cute little 11 year old girl has to worry about relationships. I don't want to see her get hurt when he pulls a nasty prank on her or says something very rude.

I think it's too young. people at ten should focus on being kids. I didn't get my first real bf at 14.

okay when I was 10 boys still had cooties. People are growing up so fast (:
Honestly, I'm 14 and I've never had a real boyfriend. I'm not allowed to until I'm 16. My mom let me go to the sadie hawkins dance with a boy and she doesn't care that thsi said boy and I have held hands on many occassions and we've hung out on our own before, I'm not not allowed to actually date him. Enjoy your time as a kid. 10 is too young.

I'm with Jessica.
When you're 10, boys still have cooties. It's a lot simpler that way sometimes.

(By the way, what's wrong with not going on many dates with your boyfriend? Me and mine don't go out much, mostly because we're (read:he is) overwhelmed with schoolwork a lot of the time... That doesn't mean I'm not his girlfriend...)
