There was a major ice storm here in Southern Ontario & Eastern Canada yesterday night, and some people (200,000ish) won't get power back in Toronto until after Christmas.
Luckily we only lost power for a few hours yesterday morning, but the roads and sidewalks are still awful, I've seen trees that have split vertically in half, fallen branches everywhere, icicles dropping from rooftops, cars literally blanketed in ice... it's nuts. There is ice everywhere. O_O
It's all over the news here, obviously since it's effecting us, so here's one of the many articles: Ice storm darkens much of Ontario, still hitting Maritimes - Canada - CBC News
And a video: Toronto ice storm may leave thousands in the dark past Christmas - Toronto - CBC News
It was raining Friday and Saturday and semi-warmer, so all the snow was melting... then that night it got juuuuussstt cold enough to freeze all the water. So, it's actually still not that cold out, just below freezing. It was the perfect conditions for something like this to happen.
