She nodded. "Werewolves aren't the only other creature, either." She told him of the shapeshifters, the witches, and the creatures outside of the Night World.
Elsewhere, a seventeen year old girl was limping down the street to the Jackrabbit Bar and Grille, hating the city, every minute of it. Her mother had moved them there, for no real reason other than to get more landlocked so she'd see her father that much less often. She missed her dad - owner of a fishing boat off the Pacific - and could only loathe her mother more and more as the years wore on.
She opened the door and gave Arik a wave as she sat down at the counter. "Can I get one of those sandwiches? Y'know the one." She smiled.
"Alrighty, one Spicy F*cker comin' up!" Arik scribbled it down; Neela was a regular in the restaurant. "Anything else, Neel?"
"Alvin. Please." She made a face at him. "I hate my name, I know Jes's told you that already."
"Bad habit." He shrugged and handed his daughter the order.
I stare at the girl in the mirror: T-shirt, torn up jeans, no beauty queen.
But the way that you see me, you get underneath me, and all my defenses just fall away, fall away.
I am beautiful with you, even in the darkest part of me. I am beautiful with you;
Make it feel the way it's supposed to be!
You're here with me: Just show me this and I'll believe I am beautiful with you!
