The gate were closed but not locked; merely tied with a rope. He undid the rope and took Kayte inside, closing the gate after them. The park would have been a well tended place back in the old days; now however it was an overgrown wilderness. There was a small lake in the centre, and a herd of horses grazed on the grass beside it.
