(Continuing flashback)

A young female Wolf of twenty three walked the battlefield. Her name was Ulricha, and she was of average height and build with long golden hair and blue eyes. Ulricha was there to make sure that every single casualty was accounted for; such a job was difficult, as anyone left on the battlefield would surely die, so she had to make sure that didn't happen.

All seemed to be well, when her sharp eyes caught a movement to her right. The young Wolf ran over straight away and knelt besides a young Cat who was wounded in the side, with a broken leg. She pushed the Cat's hair out of his face and whispered to him, asking him his name, to see if he was conscious. The Cat murmured that his name was Arik; he said nothing more but winced in pain. Ulricha helped Arik to his feet and took him to the healers.

Later, however, after examination, Arik was the cause of a revelation. The Cat revealed that, rather than being male, she was in fact female and her name was Ari. A fierce girl from the Cheetah family, she was strongly against the notion that females were weak and should be forbidden from hunting and fighting. Ari wanted equallity for males and females within Cat society; with that in mind, she had disguised herself as a boy and had joined the Cat army.

Now tho, she saw in the Wolf society a mirror of her ideals. In this society, females were not just seen as pretty, soft weaklings to be forced into restricting garments and shut away to do embroidery, but as fighters and hunters equal to the males. Ulricha, who had rescued Ari from the battlefield, was a good example of this and soon became Ari's friend, especially when Ari had declared that she would gladly remain among the Wolves for the rest of her life.
