Pyotr zipped through the water effortlessly, and found that he enjoyed this form; swimming with two legs would never be the same.
Distracted by his newfound elation at the sudden freedom brought to him in the form of an aquatic mammal, Pyotr failed to realize that he swam right though a tangle of water we'eds teeming with grindylows.
Highly aggressive by nature, and startled by the intrusion of a large, powerful animal the likes fo which these creatures had never encountered, they attacked. Without his wand -or, indeed, hands to use a wand- Pyotr had fewer options. He lashed out at them with his powerful new tail, breaking their hold; their fingers were very long, but also very brittle.
Now, Pyotr wasn't a coward, but yet he knew that he was still awkward in this form, and the grindylows had the home advantage, so to speak. Add to that the fact that taking them out would cost him quite a bit of time, and he quickly came to the decision to dash on ahead with a flick of his tail.
