"Not soft and horrible," Guine pulled a face. "Those foods are the worst unless they have a spectacular taste to make up for it".
By the next day, the sword had been embedded in the stone and Merlin and Uther's council were ready for the trials to begin. Of course, the new akin would be able to appoint his own council members and advisors, but until then the old members were counted as being reliable enough to help out with the process.
Merlin was waiting by the stone, a long line had already built, full of hopeful knights and sons of Lord's. There was also quite a crowd who had turned up to watch, wives, mothers, daughters, brothers, fathers and those who were simply interested to see what would unfold.
Guine was waiting amongst the crowd, luckily she was a pushy enough person to have earned a gold position in the crowd. Her father, being a member of Uther's council was standing off to Merlin's side. As much as she hated to admit it, there was a fair bit of excitement in the air as the final few seconds ticked down until the sword was finally ready for trials to begin.
