I wouldn't say he turned out to be good, exactly... I mean, true, he wasn't some kind of cackling archvillain who wanted to wipe out all life or anything like that, but in the end he was still just a bully and a coward. Not entirely unsympathetic, but definitely not a good or heroic character. (And not all that hot either, IMO, but whatever floats your boat XP)
