Baffling as this is, it actually is gone BEFORE your period. From what I remember, once you ovulate, it only stays in your system for a few days-week or so and then it leaves. Your period is your body shedding the tissue that had formed during that time in preparation for a possible pregnancy.

I might be wrong though, its been a long time since health class and back in the day they still touted that you could only release one egg at a time, which has since been disproven, which makes my info a bit faulty.
