I'll admit it, I find foot binding a fascinating subject, as well as any of the older fashions. I remember looking at pictures like those a few years ago and being completely disgusted, but it was acceptable at the time period. They simply had no idea about the effects. I find them comparable to corsets since now it is known that corsets actually caused internal damage and I believe they made the birthing process even more difficult due to rearranged organs, which is partially why many women ended up dying during it.

Anyways, I didn't really look over the links, but I think I remember part of the process occasionally involving actually breaking the foot. Not too sure on that information, but I think it might've occured with older girls whose families waited too long to have it done.
