The Doll Palace is a community for those who love cartoon dolls. We offer thousands of completed dolls and multiple applications for creating new characters, avatars and various forms of written expression.
We created this page as a resource for teachers and educators interested in using dolls and accompanying resources in the classroom. The Doll Palace community can motivate students in and out of the classroom to explore topics including language, history, art and online safety.
Language
Dolls and Stories
The Doll Palace members can create and use online cartoon dolls (dollz) as the basis for their own stories and poetry. The wide variety of fashion styles and types of dolls make this a fun activity for students of all ages.
Other members of the site critique the stories, and well-written items are awarded points to be used on the site as well as being awarded positive feedback from peers. There are also terms and conditions for the story creations such as absolutely no sexual content.
Stories for Kids
The Doll Palace community also includes researched articles and stories designed and written for students on high interest topics for the age group. Stories range from fashion articles and current events to historical items and opinion pieces.
Members can comment on these articles in a blog style fashion which encourages respectful discussion of the issues at hand as well as an opportunity to share ideas.
I find my students are more motivated by using online and creative aspects in class. Imagination soars and productivity increases all by simply throwing a few dolls and stories into the mix.

Many of the stories, such as one on the use of fur in fashion, have sparked rather lively debates and discussion which is a useful brainstorming or prewriting activity.
Creative Expression
The language aspects of The Doll Palace are not limited to student driven response. Teachers can utilize many of the features including various story writing contests, research aspects and incentives in daily lessons.
The website is excellent for enrichment activities and as a strong basis for creative writing. The reading is high interest and many of the stories lend themselves heavily to response writing or follow up research.
History, Holidays and Legends
Historical Items
History is fraught with interesting fashions, and students can be engaged in learning about various aspects of history through the Doll Palace community. Historical costumes and pirate dolls can help enrich lessons on relevant time periods, and stories about true historical events can spark classroom discussion or provide additional fascinating learning opportunities for students.
Holiday Information
Every holiday brings extra teaching opportunity to the classroom. The history and cultural aspects of holidays such as Christmas, Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day can be used for outside or in-class reading assignments or simply for a bit of extra classroom enrichment. Many of the holidays, including Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day also have their own dolls available to supplement study or provide a basis of discussion.
Legends and Myths
Nothing catches student interest more than old legends and myths. Greek mythology dolls and stories are available on The Doll Palace to supplement mythology lessons or for extra credit opportunities. Stories about popular creatures of mythology and the great Greek goddesses also help bring ancient mythology to life.
Other legends, both urban and otherwise, are extremely popular with students and are especially useful for reluctant readers. Mermaid and fairy dolls are popular on site or in class, as well as stories about creatures such as vampires, dragons and unicorns.
Art
Dress Up Games
Much of studied artistic expression has to do with the balance of color, lines and spacing. Online dress up games encourage the use of these aspects as well as teach students about balance and the overall aesthetic appeal of a creation.
Dolls on the Doll Palace are created using pixel art. Pixel art, along with line art, comprise the field of computer artwork – a tremendous area of interest for young artists. Students can study the difference between line art and its vector principles and pixel art and its non scalable properties simply by working with the dolls on the site.
Cartoon Dolls
Eighteen professional artists create the cartoon dolls used on The Doll Palace. The field of computer graphics and design is huge in the art community. By studying the work of professionals, interested art students are able to gain valuable insight into the field for future study or simply as a way of appreciating a more modern form of art.
Online Safety

For the safety of our younger demographic, The Doll Palace diligently monitors and performs manual review of all content including forums. The website also filters out certain inappropriate phrases or words automatically. This ensures our website is a unique and safe online environment.
The Doll Palace is also compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) as a means to better protect young visitors. As an added measure of safety, the site also contains articles for students on the topic of virtual safety.
