I’m a bit out of the loop it would seem, but I recently discovered a fun little show I wish I’d known about earlier. iCarly is entertaining in an innocent sort of way, but the basic storylines and characters are perfect for our generation. Even the name of the show is fitting as the “i” is part of iGeneration – the nickname for kids growing up right now.

In the show, Carly Shay is the main character. She’s thirteen years old and lives with her older brother Spencer. Spencer is twenty-six, a sculptor and an all around fun guy. He’s single and constantly looking for love which at one point included Carly’s as a girlfriend. Carly’s dad is on a submarine and never comes back home, so it’s just the two of them in a loft living a pretty decent life.

Carly and her friends Sam and Freddie decided to start a web show. The show took off and all three of the friends became mini-celebrities overnight. But even with all her virtual popularity, Carly is down to earth and rather sarcastic which is something I always like to see in a female character.

Sam and Freddie

I’ll admit that Carly makes me smile – she’s witty and sarcastic. Her friends, however, don’t necessarily hold the same appeal. Freddie has a secret crush on Carly and is a total pushover because of it. He also has a totally neurotic mother who forces him to bathe for ticks and doesn’t like Carly simply because she doesn’t like Freddie in the way he likes her. (Not very fair, in my humble opinion) On the web show, Freddie is the technical producer and is a total whiz on computers and electronics. He’s even hacked into the school computers (and got caught.)

Carly’s other best friend is a tough, obnoxious girl named Sam. Sam has had something of a rough life. Her mother cooks her dinner only twice a year and possibly because of this Sam is always looking for food and even stealing it from others. This is, in fact, how Sam and Carly met. Sam asked for Carly’s tuna fish sandwich in the third grade. Carly said no, and Sam pushed her down and took the sandwich anyway.

Carly, however, didn’t just take this, but stood up and took the sandwich back. Sam, recognizing a tough spirit when she saw one immediately sat down next to Carly and they’ve been friends ever since. Sam is the co-host of the web show, and when she’s not doing that’s she’s picking on poor Freddie. Plus she doesn’t read and it’s hard for me to get on board with that.

Miranda Cosgrove

Miranda is the actress who actually plays Carly. Like many actresses today, she’s more than just a television sit-com personality; she’s also a budding musician. Miranda’s music is included on the album released by Columbia Records and Nickelodeon Records. Four of her original songs are on iCarly: Music From and Inspired By the Hit TV Show as well as the show’s theme song, dialogue and songs by guest artists. Judging by the downloads and videos on Nickelodeon’s iCarly official website, I’d say Miranda has a pretty fair chance to make it as a musician. Maybe we’ll see her face on a lunchbox soon!

I HATE how celebs these days think that they can sing just because they are actors.

It is annoying.

Other than that, it's a cute show =3

Decent show, but I don't like Miranda's singing voice. It's so annoying, she's like nick's come back at hannah montana.
