In sports, your game face is all about being tough, aggressive and impenetrable to taunts and ridicule from the opposing team. What many fail to realize is that non-athletes have a game face, too. The beautiful girl who seems to care only about shopping and dates may be well groomed for more than one reason – yes, she looks terrific, but she may also be using her well made up face to hide her real emotions or even her real personality.

Make Up Games

Make up can cover a multitude of sins. Girls as young as eight know the power of concealer and a bit of mascara thanks to make up games they play on websites such as The Doll Palace.com. Girls in junior high and high school often become more skilled with a make-up brush than their mothers who have been wearing make-up for decades. Most of the time make-up is part of the fun of growing up a girl, but for some, make-up and the beauty it represents is a burden. But why?

Hiding the Truth

Just like concealer can hide a blemish, a thick layer of foundation, blush and eye shadow can hide the shy, sensitive girl inside. Putting on make-up can invoke the same feeling as garbing yourself in a mask. A face free of cosmetics is natural and exposed to the world. There is no assistance is making a nose seem more narrow or defining the shape of the eyes.

The freckles on your nose may make you self conscious as can a few scars and red marks from acne. By applying even a thin layer of foundation and powder, you’ve created a uniform texture and appearance to your skin, minimized or completely hidden spots and given yourself a bit of confidence. And you can use that confidence to do great things or to hide who you really are under a personality you’ve created as a safeguard.

Building Confidence

One would hope that young women today are inspired by great acts and are fortified by their own inner strength. This, unfortunately, is still not the case despite years of programs and assistance trying to reach girls who need a boost in self esteem or who constantly underestimate their own abilities.

For these girls, a pretty face might be all they feel can give them hope for a brighter future. Girls who are taught to value beauty and the attention it brings more so than intelligence, education and the opportunities they present can find themselves living in only a shell of who they truly want to be. Painting on a pretty face and using make-up to emphasize attractive young features is akin to putting on a game face – girls must look their best to face the world as they are told beauty is their number one asset.

The Whole Girl

Make-up is not a problem. The most intelligent and successful women in the world are beautifully made up seemingly every moment of the day. Despite tabloids reveling in catching a star without her make-up, it is obvious that looking your best gives you a confidence boost unlike no other. Of course, you can only have a healthy confidence boost when you have true confidence to begin with.

If you have a young girl in your life, don’t just buy her a new lip gloss. Instill in her pride and self worth. Values such as these will last forever – unlike the latest eye shadow trend.

My makeup for school (light layer of powder foundation, black mascara, pink lipstick, frosted lip balm or lip gloss, usually red or clear) shows my more normal, conservative side, and also my happy, slightly odd, hyper side.

However, my weekend makeup, i.e. thick black eyeliner, black, purple, magenta, red or orange lipstick, black mascara (and I WISH white foundation, but as this is very expensive and hard to come by, I make do with my own pale skin, although I will soon go out and buy some white face paint), shows my dark, Gothic side, which I love. I'm not especially beautiful, I'm pretty, but I'm not sexy or seductive, but this makeup highlights my blue eyes, makes my lips look fuller, my eyes bigger and my skin paler, making me look almost beautiful. I know I am intelligent, which I show ehether I am wearing makeup or not, but makeup makes my look good, which makes me feel good, therefore being more confident and being able to participate more rather than hiding.

I usually wear foundation to school if I plan to spend time with the guy I like. Occasionally a little bit of concealer too.

Makeup is for the school prom, and other such expensive places

I never wear make-up- I feel no need to hide the face that I've been given. A bit of chapstick to heal chapped lips and a good acne wash is all I need to look my best

i like make up. i don't wear it because i think im ugly though.

not trying to sound conceited but i think im pretty.

i wear natural shades so i dont look fake.

it all blends in and looks like its just me even though i have makeup on.

i don't put on all the extravagent colors like pinks and purples and blues that make you stand out.

and i have dark circles(not bags) naturally under my eyes.

i agree with kit kat. it is annoying.

but good article

Yes, make up can get quite ugly sometimes if there's too much on. I usually just wear some eyeliner and concealer so I don't look like I haven't slept in eleven years. I naturally have dark bags under my eyes...quite annoying....

Really? Everyone I know said it was bat poo. I don't like wearing make up, I always end up wipping it off with my sleeve or something..
