Dressing for a first date can be excruciating. You want to look your best, but you want to be comfortable. Should you dress up for the date, or should you wear your normal clothes so that your guy doesnít feel underdressed? Is there a standard first date outfit, or should you just go all out? Dressing for that first date can be confusing, but it shouldnít stress you out.

Know Where Youíre Going

Your first step in getting dressed for a first date is to have some clue about what the evening has in store. Are you going to the movies or to the beach? Will you be walking on the boardwalk or sailing? Each potential destination has wardrobe elements to carefully consider. Donít emasculate your date, but do give him a call to see what sort of activities you should be planning for.

Plan Your Outfit

Your next step is to take the time to actually plan your outfit. If you donít want to pull all of your clothes out of the closet, you can play around with dress up games on websites such as Dress up games let you experiment with different looks and accessories before emptying your drawers and overwhelming yourself with possibilities.

When planning your outfit, you should always keep a few things in mind.

You want to feel good in your outfit. If you feel uncomfortable or have to spend the whole date pulling your top up and your skirt down, you wonít be at your finest. Wear something that you know is flattering, but that lets you relax and focus on your date Ė not your hemline.

You want to be comfortable. Stiletto heels can be comfortable if they fit well, but choose your footwear and clothing carefully. You may be headed for a simple cup of coffee, but that cup of coffee may be followed by a stroll through the mall. You want to be able to stroll rather than hobble. And if you just so happen to grab an ice cream cone on the way home, you should be able to skip unfastening your pants, too.

You want to be modest. Sex appeal is all well and good, but dinner and a movie isnít a night at the clubs. Give your date something to wonder about and keep yourself decently covered. If the relationship progresses, you can shorten the skirts and wear your sexier tops, but a first date is about getting to know you Ė not your cleavage.

Prepare in Advance

Lay out your clothing the night before so that any emergency washing can be done well before itís time to leave. Carefully examine each piece of the outfit for missing buttons or lint. Use a lint remover to clean up any stray particles, and use an iron if you need one to be sure you donít look too fresh out of the dryer.

Have Fun!

Finally, get dressed the day of the date and examine yourself in the mirror. You should feel good about yourself and your outfit and that confidence will make the date much more relaxed and fun. Take one last look, smile at how great you look, and head off for a bit of fun and excitement.
