Our planet is in trouble. The amount of trouble varies by the day and the agency offering up the latest report, but at any given moment, we are adding serious amounts of pollution to the air, using up precious naturally resources, and contributing to global warming. Used a hair dryer today? Turned on a light? Rode in a car? You’ve contributed to the problem. And with a problem this big, is there really a solution? Many experts tell us there is.

Going Green

Increasingly you hear more about the nation and the planet going green. This means individuals are refocusing attention on how to do what we need to do while protecting the planet. Need to drive a car to school? Get one that is solar powered or a hybrid that gets four times as many miles to the gallon. Need to use your flat iron? Plug it into a home fueled by wind or solar energy.

Car engines are beginning to see modifications to be more environmentally friendly. And consumers are picking up their end of the slack by worrying a bit more about gas mileage and energy output when buying those vehicles. You can’t fix the spreading hole in the ozone layer by yourself. But if you go green along with several million of your closest friends, we just might start getting somewhere.

Ways to Go Green

Need some help getting started on your new green campaign? Here are a few ideas to get you pointed in the right direction.

Buy Local Produce and Meat – By buying organic food at a farmer’s market or small neighborhood grocery, you’re supporting your own community. You’ll also be not supporting the major growers who use enough chemicals, pesticides, and other nasty stuff to pollute local water ways and kill entire ecosystems. You’ll also not be supporting farms that were created by clear cutting and burning large sections of forest.

Plant a Tree or Ten – Plants clean the air, so get started gardening. Find plants and trees that suit your personality and your gardening abilities, and plant them in your backyard. Or, buy plants on sale and go and plant them for elderly neighbors or your own grandparents. Not only will you be helping to clean the polluted air, you’ll be spending time in a meaningful way as well.

Use Those Funny Light bulbs – You’ve seen them. When you use those florescent light bulbs that twist and turn, you’ll be saving money, but more importantly you’ll be helping to conserve energy. Considering most of our energy comes from fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas or oil products, this can be a significant savings. And turning off the lights and fan when you’re not in the room is yet another way to save some energy.

Spread the Word – Be sure you’re letting others know about the problem with the environment and helping them find ways to help. There are thousands of ways to help protect and hopefully save our world, but if those ideas are going to work, we all need to be on board with changes for the better – even if they hurt a bit in the meantime.

Once the ozone layer is gone, there is nothing protecting us from the UV rays. If we are among too much of these rays, our cells can no longer function. This means that we will no longer be able to breathe, our hearts won't be able to beat, our brains would not tell our bodies to do anything, we wouldn't see, hear, taste, smell, and we become immobile. Essentially, we will become die out. And such is true for all life on earth. The destruction of all living beings is unavoidable unless we as humans change our lifestyles.

It is very important for the continuation of life as we know it for us to go GREEN!

Also, everyone, really do not take any of this lightly. Global warming is a serious problem. I had to read a book on it once, and I found myself weeping many times for our planet.

Beleive it or not, because of global warming, we're going to have another Ice Age, and this will happen as soon as 2050! I forget the most specific details, but here's the basic summary:

The amount of CO2 in the air is not only increasing the concentration of greenhouse g@sses in the air and warming the planet, but it is also severely modifying the global winds that circulate our planet. It is even beginning to change the jet stream. If this happens, extremely cold air (or something like that, I forget) will begin to circulate Earth, eventually freezing it over.

Again, this approximately by the year 2050.

Also, the amount of greenhouse g@sses and CO2 in the atmosphere is destroying the ozone layer, a protective barrier around the Earth that sheilds us from harmuful UV rays from the sun (continued...)

i do all those things, including some of the things kitkat02 mentioned. not a lot of my friends do it though, even thought i have tried to convert them. most of them think global warming is all a sham, and they're useless to talk to about it. *sighs*

Yes!! GO GREEN! You can also get low-energy washing machines (front-loaders are GOOD), don't use electric toothbrushes, turn off lights when you get the chance, try to switch up your transportation methods, if it's nice out, ride the bike! Also recycle, don't leave your car running, don't use as many paper towels...umm...don't waste water (instead of waiting for it to get cold, put it in a pitcher in the fridge!), and you can also try to organize the garbage. Sounds silly, but you can stack cups together, put things inside bags that might be already there...All of these things decrease the amount in the trash leaving room for more to go in, so not as much space in the garbage dumps is wasted!

Also, reuse grocery bags. Plastic takes a lot of energy to make and they take up a lot of space at the dump.

Think about it, if we all did some of these things, we'd make a big difference! The smallest things DO count!

GO GREEN! SAVE THE WORLD!!!!!!!
