Rihanna has a powerful voice that certainly defined her place in the world of music. With popular songs and a killer sense of style, Rihanna is an up and coming diva – and she has every right to be.

Growing Up

Rihanna had an exotic childhood. She was born on the island of Barbados and spent most of her childhood living the life of a typical school girl. She went to school, hung out with friends and formed a musical trio with two of her classmates. She even has two younger brothers to complete what should have been a totally typical life. But Rihanna’s life has gone from typical to fabulous.

The Big Break

When Rihanna was fifteen a music producer happened to be vacationing on the island. Rihanna had a friend who was able to introduce her to the producer, and the rest is history. Rihanna suddenly found herself in the United States working on demos and trying to land a recording contract.

Jay-Z of Def Jam Records got hold of her demos and signed Rihanna a short time later. Since then, Rihanna has been working hard writing songs by herself and with others and singing her heart out. She’s only nineteen but has released three albums – all of which have gone gold or platinum.

The Talent

Rihanna’s talent is not just her beautiful voice. She is also talented at bringing her own culture and musical inspiration into her music. R&B mixes beautifully with Caribbean flair to create the kind of music Rihanna has become famous for.

Her first album, Music of the Sun, was popular in both the United States and the UK. It went gold in both places meaning it sold more than 500,000 copies, and then later went platinum by selling 2 million. The album wasn’t reviewed well by music critics, but Rihanna’s fans didn’t care. She had a unique sound and the songs “Pon de Replay” and “If It’s Loving That You Want” were well received by fans around the world.

Only eight months later Rihanna released her second album, A Girl Like Me. This one was even more successful with “SOS” and “Unfaithful” as the most popular songs. “SOS” was actually used in an endorsement deal with Nike and the popularity of this album helped land her more endorsements for Clinque and Secret, both of which inspired new songs.

Her most current album, Good Girl Gone Bad, has made Rihanna even more popular than she was before. Her hit song, “Umbrella,” stayed at the top of the charts for ten weeks in the UK – almost as long as Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.” It reached number one all over the world and is played constantly in clubs and on the radio.

The album also helped earn Rihanna World's Best-Selling Pop Female Artist & Entertainer of the Year at the 2007 World Music Awards, and she also won Favorite Female Artist - Soul/R&B at the 2007 American Music Awards.

The Future

Rihanna is still working to promote her latest album and is on tour in Canada and the UK. She’s been working with industry powerhouses like Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z, so it is likely we’ll be seeing another album soon. Not only that, but Rihanna has already had small parts in movies and television shows – could she be the next big cross over?

oh, and Blondie: it probably wasn't her idea to "dancing and singing in your underwear and swinging around a pole in "shut up and drive". its the producer's idea. and maybe shes just overly confident. not everybody dresses modeslty.

so what you guys are trying to say is: in order to be a rolemodel you have to be a boring person living in a dull small town and attneding Yale or Harvard to be some boring lawyer? Yawn.

Rhianna is cool. If you want to see pole dancing, check out Britney Spears. But who cares about pole dancing? Its not bad. I mean, well, if your into that kinda stuff. I for one would not swing on a pole unless me and my friend Carolyn are with a drunken Hayley Williams. XDD

okay, that last part was a joke.

But yeah, Rhianna is kinda amazingg.

Isn't a role model an opinion for everyone? I'm not really into going to fancy law colleges type, more sports type. Rihanna is definitely an amazing role model for girls who want to get a record deal or dance or sing or something.

What you think is talent is another opinion.

Why bother fighting over opinions?

Hm?

oO;

Anyways, I love Rihanna. She's amazingly gorgeous and her voice is unique.

=D

Considering she's a "black singer" and a female, she has it good.

I'm surprised she hasn't gotten some wise-crack about her skin color, though.

yeah. agreed that rihanna most certainly is NOT a good role model. much better role models are those found in very good colleges like oxford, william and mary, harvard and yale (though i dont exactly partake of those. I'm more of a reddneck gal) also...better role models are those found with abstinence....and it's a plus if they're not afraid to show their religion.

Blondie who said i was gonna swing around a pole? all i said was that i like her music, think she pretty. shes a good role model, because she is sooo successful, and works hard to get where she wants to be. just my view, but where did you get the "pole dancing" thing?
