Girls love drama. Some of us are drama queens and love to be the center of attention, and others prefer to hang out in the audience and just watch the dramatics unfold around us. Of course there are always people who prefer to keep to themselves, but when something gossip worthy is occurring, it’s a rare individual who honestly doesn’t care to hear the latest or see what happens next. We just can’t help it!

The Drama of it All

There are lots of ways to get a drama fix. Television is great at giving us what we want. Do you think soap operas would be nearly as popular as they are if we weren’t tuning in? Hearts are breaking and betrayal happens right and left. Only in a soap opera can a girl find out she’s adopted, realize she was about to marry her real brother and then be targeted for murder by her mother. Oh, how we gobble it up.

Of course, soap operas seem tame compared to their cousins - the reality shows. If my reality was anything like the reality I see on television, I probably would have been beaten up or gone insane years ago.

How can there possibly be so many crazy people in the world, and how do they manage to find each other in front of television cameras? I’m sure the producers of the shows have nothing to do with it.

Sure, I’ve seen a few fights at school between girls, but I’ve never seen the kinds of catty remarks and hair pulling I’ve seen on MTV. And its not limited to teenage girls – grown women the age of my mother have been known to throw down over the craziest things. It’s a bit shocking, but I personally find it hard to change the channel in the middle of someone’s psychotic breakdown over what she thinks someone else said about her in the confession room.

Why Do We Love it?

If we were objective about it, we would say that people’s drama is their own business. But we don’t. Instead we eat it up and sometimes even help it along – even if we know it’s wrong. Spreading gossip is obviously a bad thing, but I’ve been known to do it. Sometimes the stories are just too interesting to resist – especially if you know it’s true. I know, I know – I’m going to stop.

I’m pretty sure we love drama as much as we do because it fills a need for excitement in our lives. Some girls like to live drama and others just prefer to watch it. There are tons of emotions involved in anything falling in the dramatics category. Tears, joy, anger and excitement can all coexist in a single moment.

Drama elicits feelings and fascinates us. Nobody would be interested in watching a show about a street full of women who just hang around texting each other or talking on the phone. But a street full of women who cheat on their husbands, stab each other in the back and constantly plot against each other is down right interesting – especially if it’s your street!

Ugh, my school is the worst for drama. It's probably because about 98% of the people are fake, jealous, b*tcy, slu*tty, and have no idea how to shut their mouths. hey don't even have to have a good reason to start drama, they just start stupid sh*t every day. I think it's pretty stupid to say that catty drama is interesting...it's just sh*t.

I've been known to spread rumours and the likes.

It's just some sort of compulsion for the girls in my school though. Everything is drama.

i suppose that's how we keep our boring town going.

Well, good article.
