Itís fascinating to watch, and some people devote their entire lives to magic. Magicians like David Copperfield and David Blaine are famous for their magic, but is it really magic? For that matter, does magic even exist, or are we all just being stung along by some gifted artists?

Supernatural Powers

For hundreds, even thousands, of years, some people have claimed to possess supernatural or magical powers. They have the ability to make things disappear, fly, or change. For centuries, magicians claimed they were in fact truly magic, but now many of them seem okay with the idea that they are simply performing magic tricks for an audience willing to suspend disbelief.

There are many different skill levels for magicians. The magician who performed at your fifth birthday party is not competing with Houdini or David Blaine for national attention. Speaking of David Blaine, he is the most popular street magician of our time.

He literally walks down the street performing seemingly impossibly tasks in front of random people. Many of the same people who see through basic magic tricks on a stage or television are having a hard time understanding how he can make himself float off the sidewalk at will if heís not magic Ė maybe he really is!

Other Kinds of Magic

So if making a quarter come out of someoneís ear isnít really magic, what is? Some will tell you, even right here on the Doll Palace forums, that nature is full of magic and that the creatures we write off as fantasy Ė fairies, pixies, unicorns and mermaids are all alive and well hidden from those who donít believe in them.

Potions and witchcraft are still around and extremely popular in many circles. Havenít we all wished we could slip a little love potion to a special someone?

Believe it or not, there are still plenty of people who claim to make magic potions, and plenty more who claim they actually work!

In fact, there are many societies around the globe where the most honored person in the village or community is the one who knows a bit of magic. In some cases, their brand of magic is based on the same scientific principles and medicines we use, and in others, it seems based on something else entirely. If something isnít based on any science we know, can it be magic?

So How Real is Magic?

Cheap magic tricks involving fake flowers and a deck of cards are easy to see as simple tricks. Other, more complicated feats such as levitation and disappearances make us stop and think. Even if weíre able to write off that type of street magic, many of us still wonder Ė did magic ever exist? Where did the stories of fairies and unicorns come from if they arenít based on reality? And most interesting of all Ė if you believe in magic the way some people do, does it simply become real?

Idon't believe a magician's magic.I take that as illusion However what is sometimes written as "fantasy" I do believe in. I belive that it comes from God and his power becomes magic to us in very special ways .

I think magic is as real as anything. Chriss Angel is my favorite, with floating across from one building to another....he rocks.

And, he's so dark!

*I like Darkness.*

I would love to believe in magic. In fact, I think it's silly NOT to believe in magic, since magic is just un-explored science anyway...

Magic tricks really just involve science, not special powers. BTW, why wasn't Criss Angel included in the article? he is probably the most famous illusionist of our generation. And he's hot.Not that that matters though.
