Why calling people certain things can mess up the way they see themsleves positivley.
I've noticed that lately people have been saying things to eachother like "Ugh, I hate preps" or making fun of people who cut by saying things like "Oh, look at me, I'm emo! *pretends to cut*". Or just plain ripping on eachother by the music they like, what they wear, or what they are like. When you people say things like this, you do it on purpose. I mean, its obvious your trying to put somebody down or hurt them. But you don't realize one thing, you can hurt somebody with those words more than you think. Some people are sensitive and take things harder than others do. When you say things like that, you can make somebody want to change the way they are and start hating themselves. They get more emotional and they may start developing depression. So please, next time your about to say something hurtful, think about what those words will do. Thanks for reading!

this is a good article. but i have to say something about emos. they are not depressed. they are trying to act depressed and say they cut themselves for the attention. cutting yourself is not cool! when soemone has a real problem and they cut themselves, they generally dont tell anyone for a really long time, they just dont blurt out, "ya i cut my wrists, but it wasnt very deep so you cant see the scar!"

one of my best friends cut, and she didnt tell anyone! acutally she is considred a prep, but after that a lot of people started calling her emo. it was really depressing becuase she always wore huge sweaters to hide the scars, and got so crabby if anyone asked what the h*ll was witht he sweaters.

anyway, my point is, emo's are really not depressed. i know that a lot of people will disagree with me, just need to make my point.

i hate it when african american people call me "racist." I have only been called a racist a few times in my life, but my caucasian friends are called racist all the time. WTF? they say if u call someone "black" or "african american" its racist. But ppl call me skinny asian-white hybrid and they call my friends "skinny white chicks" all the time..THAT is more racist, i think. im just so sick of it...im not making any generaliziations here, so dont flame me or anything...its just ppl i've MET. And my point will be proven if u say "calling someone black IS racist!"

i agree completly

I actually hate "Preps"

but thats just because they annoy me,i have a best freind as a prep, shes nice but she can be VERY annoying we've been freinds for 6 years. But i've gotten through it. Alot of people are that way because they think its cool.

its actually a freaking cruel thing to do.

I hope that i change when i get older,but i doubt that'll happen. =/

Response to fairy dust11. Thats an idiotic reason to call you Emo. They probably don't know what Emo means then. To be Emo, you'd wear more than just a black hoodie, and you'd act a certain way. You know, there are different types of Emo. There is Scene, which is a happy version of Emo. Then, theres just..Emo. Hope you all understand that.

I understand what you're trying to say, but i love labels anyways. I mean, i don't go up to somebody and just bring them down because of what they are like, that's just plain rude. Labels just help you develope friends quicker in a situation where you don't know anyone. I don't abuse them.=]

and i used to be depressed, in like, fifth grade with thoughts of suicide and everything. it really hurt, but i'm much better now. but when i see wemos trying to look all depressed, i get so mad!!! they have no idea how horrible it is, but they want it, just because so many people are doing it? suicide is the #1 killer of american teens. it is soooo not cool to pretend to be depressed.

i get that! all my old "friends" considered themselves emo (i called them "wemo," or wanna-be emo) and tried to convert me to be like them, just because they couldn't figure out i was preppy, boho, surfer or whatever. so what if i wear a skirt from india with a tank from american eagle? i thought they looked good together!!!!!!!!!!!

Me and my friends defy lables we all hang out together with the preps, emos, gangsters, goths, smart peoples, avrage people, etc regarless of what they like, their views, or anything else. Depression is a serious illness. It is recognised as a real disorder, and people laughing at that should have a look at themselves. Would you tease someone with cancer? Someone dying? I don't think so. Teasing someone and labeling them can harm the mentally, and this can be a cause of depression. If you don't like the way someone looks, NEWS FLASH! keep it to yourself!
