There is no question that Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom are hot. They, along with Keira Knightly, make all the Pirates movies so much more entertaining than just the basic story line would. Sure, we love to see some good sword fights and enjoy a fair bit of humor, but when two very hot guys are wielding the swords, it makes it that much better for those of use who enjoy a bit of visual stimulation.
But is that all there really is to the pirates of the day? Are they just nice to look at? Of course not! There is much more to these two gentlemen of the seas…
Johnny is one of the most versatile actors of the day.
Who else can go from a fierce but funny pirate to an eccentric candy maker and back to the pirate without faltering? All of his characters are totally believable, and that is no easy feat with the ones he chooses to play. Johnny made a promise to himself back in the 1980s that he would only take on roles that he felt really interested him. So, since that time, he has done exactly that.
He has been in a lot of movies that were not huge at the theaters, but gave him a chance to enjoy movie making and perfect his acting skills. When the first Pirates came out, Johnny became popular with everyone, not just the fans that’ve been with him since Edward Sissorhands. Johnny was cute, funny and even a little bit sexy in a “drunken pirate needs to bathe” sort of way.
Girls and their mothers all loved Johnny and they were anxious to see him again in the second installment. But, when he *Warning! Spoiler!* dies at the end of the second movie, many of his fans were saddened and perplexed. How can this be the end of handsome Cap’n Jack? Fortunately, previews have shown us that Johnny will return in his full suave glory to the third movie, and we won’t have to wait much longer to get our fill. (The new movie comes out May 25.)
It’s interesting. If Johnny Depp doesn’t appeal to you as the sort of hot guy you enjoy watching, it’s almost certain that Orlando will. Orlando Bloom is younger than Johnny, but just as much fun to watch on screen. He was unknown until he played a rather hot elf in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It’s no surprise that his character in the Pirates movies is just as nice to watch.
Orlando is actually from England, so the yummy accent in the movie is actually real (unlike Johnny’s.) He is only twenty-five years old and seems to always play very noble characters. In the Pirates movies (thus far at least) he’s been a true gentleman. He doesn’t pursue his love in the first movie because he knows Keira Knightly’s character is too far above him, but rescues her when she is taken.
Even when he has concerns about their engagement in the second movie, he does what he can to protect her and save her life. He may have turned pirate, but Orlando’s character, Will, is much more noble than all the other characters in the movie combined – at least he doesn’t seem to keep wanting to snuggle up to Cap’n. Jack, but I digress…
