Many girls call their pets fur babies. I myself have pets and I love them enough to let them sleep in my bed and clean up any accidents I may step in during the night, but I'm not sure they are my babies. These "fur babies" of the world are treated a great deal like regular babies, and I for one am beginning to think it's getting a bit out of hand.
I swear there are dogs out there that are better dressed than their owners.
The pooches might be wearing collars worth more than my entire jewelry collection and have more outfits than the average teenage girl. These pups have manicures, hair/fur appointments and travel in style.
Designers are catching on to the spoiled doggy trend and creating clothing for pups and producing designer bags so that your fur baby can ride with you in Prada or Gucci style. These animals eat specially prepared meals and frequent restaurants and coffee shops with their owners. Is all of this going too far?
People are Animals, Too
If pets are treated better than the humans in the relationship, does that make the doggies superior? After all, many of us can't afford to get fully groomed every week with new polish on our toes and a great new hairstyle. We don't get designer duds and we sure don't get carried around and fed delicious foods for every meal. (Think lunch in the cafeteria.) I for one will probably never have a new hair accessory, bow or otherwise, every week.
If I wear the same clothes week after week and deal with bad hair days, shouldn't my dog live a normal life, too? Sure I love a little pampering now and again, but if I lived in the lap of luxury all the time, I would never know when I was actually being pampered! Living like a normal person or normal pet isn't a bad thing Ė it just makes the good times that much better.
Living the Good Life
The good life to a dog is pretty simple. Dogs like to lie around a lot, run around outside, bark at birds and other wildlife, and occasionally chew on a special treat like a bone or your favorite pair of flip-flops. All of this is difficult to achieve from inside a designer tote bag while wearing a stylish pink rain coat and hat.
You don't have to spoil your doggie to make them love you. If you make sure your doggie has what he needs, you are already treating him better than most of the pets in the world. Quality food, some water, a nice bed to sleep in and a few little doggie toys can keep your pooch happy while you are away and simply being with you in a room and the occasional pat or scratch behind the ears when you are home can practically put your fur baby in paradise.
Just love them the way a doggie wants to be loved, and they will adore you enough to slobber on your hands and jump up on you when you walk through the door everyday. What else can a pet owner ask for?
