He catches your eye from across the room. He may not realize it yet, but obviously you are destined to be together. Now, if only you could get him to read the thoughts you're sending in his direction! Fortunately, there are some subtle hints that guys seem to clue into when dealing with girls. The code name for these clues is flirting.

To Flirt?

Flirting has a reputation of being harmless. A few smiles here or a laughing touch there doesn't really mean anything serious unless you want it to. You can flirt with all the boys you want and so long as you don't take it beyond simple friendly chatter and a few batted eyelashes, you'll be fine. The biggest problem you'll face from all this flirting would be too many boys and not enough time.

Not to Flirt.

Some times are not appropriate for flirting, even harmless fun. If you're being a bit too friendly with your best friend's guy or guy hopeful, you're about to ruin a relationship – the one between you and your friend that is. It's also a very bad idea to flirt with boys or men who are considerably older than you. You may think you science teacher is hot, but you can land in a pretty big mess if you think a few clever words and a winning smile will win his heart or an A.

Quality Flirting

Good flirting can look different on everyone. It does have some tell-tale characteristics, however. Most flirting starts with a smile and some eye contact. You meet his eyes, smile and maybe look away. This is like a "come on over" beacon to most boys. The next step is friendly conversation. Keep it light and maybe tease just a little bit. Don't make fun of the boy as he is already putting his ego on the line coming over to visit.

If you really like him, make a point of finding a way to touch him. Nothing serious here either, just make a light touch on his arm or hand when you make a point about something in conversation, or even a little knee nudge under the table when you share a private joke. It can appear accidental or intentional, but limit it to something very small or you might look too forward. We don't want to be patting him down during your very first conversation.

Aim Your Flirt Wisely

You don't have to really like a boy to flirt with him, but you do need to be careful. Flirting is a powerful weapon. Believe it or not, many boys are rather insecure and are very afraid of rejection. If you are just practicing new flirting techniques on someone you think is harmless, he may be getting an entirely different message. You flirt with him. It tells him (in guy language) that you're interested.

He ventures past his comfort zone to ask you out or even call you. When you reject him, even if it's a very gentle let down, you've hurt his feelings – and you started the whole thing! Flirting is a lot of fun and can take awhile to perfect, so it is best to practice wisely. Think about what you're doing and then just flirt away!

[I'm a guy and I share my account with a girl so don't give me any of that "OMG HE'S A GIRL!!!" stuff]

Flirting is so annoying to me. There are tons of girls that come up and try to flirt with me. I just want them to leave me alone. It's also very funny to watch them freak out when I say I'm taken by a guy. [I'm bi.]

I asked this guy out because he is always flirting with me and he said yes. The at the Skating Rink he dumped me because some girl told him I was cheating on him. Then she went out with him. I wanted to kill her. Belive it or not she was my best friend. Now she hates me and wants to fight because I told him the truth and he told me he loves me and always will. The next day I found him her in the bathroom at he park! I was ready to scream. The next day I broke up with him and he asked me why so I said "I think you know why!" and started crying. I thought he was perfect. Even the best guys have problems. Now I`m going out with.....well I don`t want to keep you waiting comment me if you want to know who I`m going ot with now.

Flirting is something I'm inexpeirienced at. I probably didn't spell that right so 4-give me. Anywho, because I can't I don't. I do know however where it's over the top. I'm not that stupid. As far as that goes, I just look out in space and then look at my crush when he's not looking and then we make eye contact (almost lip contact on accident one time) and then I look down not too quick.

To BlowingxBubble:

Boys actually don't mature until they're in their 40's. Sad, but true. There are some guys who are mature for their age. So there's still hope.
