The air is turning colder and that means two things one, its officially winter, and two, the heaters are going full blast. Unfortunately, the delicious heat that comes pouring out of heaters at home, in cars and at school can do a real number on your skin. There is nothing more drying than hot, dry air. Unless its freezing, icy wind.

Winter Skin

You might have the most beautiful skin in the summer when you can show it off. You keep your legs shaved and apply lotion religiously so that you look great in shorts and skimpy tops. But when winter rolls around, the skin care regime loses a bit of its fun. After all, whos going to see your skin under your sweaters, jeans, wool socks, and turtlenecks? Why bother?

Why bother, indeed. You need to take care of your skin in the winter not only because you might find a chance to show some skin at a party or hot tub, but also because it will make you feel better. Winter can be a long, dark time of year for many people, especially those that love the sun. Sure, Christmas is fun, but then we all settle in for months of winter which dont come with fun holiday activities.

Dry skin can make the winter more uncomfortable. The itch can make you scratch at your skin and you can damage it if your scratch too hard. You can also end up with chapped skin on your face and hands if they are exposed to cold winds without moisture. Your lips might be the most sensitive area of all. When you keep up your skin routine during the winter, not only do you feel less itchy, you also feel good about yourself which translates to feeling good in the rest of your life.

Taking Care of Yourself

So how do you actually take care of your skin in the winter? The key is moisture. Skip the stinky and glittery lotions, at least as your first step. You want the ultra deluxe heavy duty creams.

In every shower or bath, be sure you exfoliate your skin gently to remove the dry cells. As soon as you get toweled off, while your skin is still slightly wet, lather yourself in lotion. Start with your face and neck and use a special facial crme. Then, move on to the rest of your body. If you do your face last, you risk mixing the heavy body lotion in with your face crme which could lead to breakouts.

Many heavily scented lotions or glittery lotions dont have enough moisture to keep your skin soft and healthy all day. So save those for after your skin has absorbed an ultra lotion designed for dry winter skin. If you want to use a fashionable lotion after your skin is moisturized, go right ahead, but dont skip the real cream in your routine.

If your hands or feet seem especially dry and chapped, invest in some special socks and gloves that you wear to bed. These items help keep moisture in and let your hands and feet do a deep moisture therapy every night. Just apply lotion and pull on your gloves and socks at bedtime.

If you want to give it a try but cant find the special gloves, a clean pair of cotton socks over lotion will give you much of the same benefit you just might feel a bit foolish going to bed with socks on your hands. But then, whos going to see you at night? Everyone is just going to admire your beautiful skin when you do happen to get a chance to show it off.

Yeah, sorry for the double post. Computer is being wonky. As usual. XD

This was a good article, JeZz. But I would like to say one thing : DO NOT put regular lotion on your face. It could irritate your skin and cause breakouts. Stick to non comogenic (I think that;'s right,I would have to look it up) facial moisturizers.

Blondie_30, this is NOT a chat room! If you want to post your opinion on the article and stuff related to it then fine, but you're just posting random crap on pretty much all the aticles. That is the reason why avatar chat is on this site. if you would like to chat, then please go there.

Ok, wait. Never mind that. I went back to older comments on other articles and it's all clear now. Seriously, though, we should all just get along...or at least pretend to.

I want in no way to be involved in this, but honestly, whiteskywarrior only posted that she likes hot tubs. Holy cow, some spamming. Not. So, I don't know if you have some sort of ongoing arrgument or something, but don't fight here. :] Let's all be happy friends, ok? Or we can all hate each and leave eachother alone.
