Things change and with change come a few new likes and dislikes. Now I certainly realize that my personal list of hots and nots is just that – personal. It’s not universal and I’m not going to fight to the death with you about anything on it. Just consider it all in good fun!

What’s Hot – Jonas Brothers

The boy band sensation from Disney is still going strong and getting more attention every day. Most of their songs are decent enough, but the teen (and preteen) appeal of the band of brothers is strong enough to carry them through the occasional bad melody to super stardom. They are pretty cute, too.

What’s Not – Britney Spears

She might be poised for a comeback, but she’s been less than poised for much too long in my book. It’s time for her to spend some quality time with her family and to find a career that’s not going to drive her (literally) crazy. Maybe something more mellow in fields of wildflowers or something.

What’s Hot – Books on MP3 Players

Surely you’ve seen these, but if not, I’ll explain. It used to be that to check out an audio book from your library, you had to get a CD and then dig out a portable CD player or play it on your computer. Some MP3 players would let you download books, but the biggest names made you buy the equivalent of a whole book if you wanted to listen to it on the MP3 player. But now, book manufacturers have wised up.

They are producing books on tiny MP3 players that come complete with ear buds. All you have to do is check out the MP3 player that contains only a single book, plug in the ear buds and you’re in business. You can’t put anything else on the player, and you don’t need anything beside the player itself to get some of the latest and most interesting titles around.

What’s Not – Cheap Ripoff Vampire Books

Twilight I loved. There are a few others that are more than decent as well. But I think it’s time for the goth/emo/vampire book craziness to end. Twilight was awesome because it was new and different. There was only one real series of vampire books out before Twilight that I’m aware of (Cirque de Freak, if you must know), but now everywhere I look there are vampires and whatnot falling in love, living in anquish and killing each other. I love a good love story, but surely its time to come up with something new and original.

What’s Hot – Saving the Earth

The Earth is in trouble, and it’s up to you to save it. Actually it’s up to all of us, so spread the word and lead by example. Recycle what you can, reuse items as much as possible, and reduce what you buy. Choose a career and volunteer work that helps to improve the planet rather than destroy it. That way you can dedicate your whole life to making our world a better place.

"Twilight was awesome because it was new and different."

I laughed so hard when I read that. New and different? Please! I've read/seen/heard of similar books. Hopefully this vampire-romancy-sparkle stuff will end soon.

Yeah, maybe if you're twelve. The only "hot" thing I actually appreciated was saving the Earth. And I liked that you noted on the whole dumping of unoriginal books on the teen market.

*Blinks* Umm...why should I car about what is hot in the world today? No offense, just saying. Shouldn't it really matter what I belive is hot and not at the moment. Like, for example, Phantom of the Opera. Very hot. Cans of chili, NOT!(Don't ask)

*Coughs* Yeah, five second rant is over. It would probably be best it I was ignored, I'm a little angry at my brother right now and I'm ready to battle it out with anyone at the moment....Okay, I'm really angry at my brother.

I'm sure at any other time I would say that this is a good article! In fact, you gave me info I had no clue about. They put books on MP3 players now? Sweet! *Runs off to see if the put Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux on a MP3 player*

I completly agree with the vampire book craze, however, I HATE twilight, I prefer Anne Rice's The vampire chronicals, those started in the 70s and center around love and despair.I also hate the Jonas brothers.

I kind of agree with the vampire books, but I think House of Night is good too! New material would be lovely though!

Great Article!
