Itís hard to believe, but itís already almost time to put those swimsuits away and head back to the classroom. Fortunately, going back to school does have a few perks- youíll see your friends again, you might meet some new people, and youíll have a chance to get your stuff ready for a new year.

There is something special about the beginning of the year. Sure, itís always a drag to have to stop the summer, but school isnít all bad. Every year is a fresh start and nothing seems to make that point more clearly than the smell of a new folder and pencil shavings. School supplies might be rather basic, but they can be fun if you get your mind pointed in the right, optimistic direction.

Speaking of school supplies, there are certain things you absolutely must have this year whether they are on the printed list or not:

New Shoes

Back in the olden days, kids got new shoes once a year Ė if that. And that was usually when they went to school or at the start of winter. So now that youíre heading back to school, you deserve a new pair, too. Go for flats or ballerina slippers. Or maybe just a funky pair of converse high-tops will suit.

Sharpies

Naturally, youíll need to personalize your binders and folders, so the best way to make those decorations stick is with some great colored Sharpies. Just be sure you only color the binders Ė not your locker or desk.

Lunch Box

Even if you buy part of your lunch in the cafeteria, grab a vintage or vintage-styled lunch box. The best kinds are metal boxes with favorite cartoon characters on them. You can store your food in it for the cafeteria or maybe sneak your iPod and apple into the library with it so you can have a few minutes of blissful music between excruciating classes.

New Sweater

Hoodies are still around and very practical, but before you shrug back into your standard sweatshirt or hoodie for cold classrooms, check out the options when it comes to sweaters. Get a sweater coat or striped cardigan to give your look a bit more style and drama. Plus they are more attractive and just as warm.

Mechanical Pencils

If youíre still relegated to the pencil sharpener, youíre not living life to the fullest. Mechanical pencils are very freeing. You can write and write and write without ever having to stand up and use one of those annoying squeaking pencil sharpeners. Plus, if you didnít know already, mechanical pencils are perfectly okay to be used on standardized tests.

Pretty Pens

Yes, you have to get blue and black pens to make your English teacher happy, but those donít have to be the only colors of ink in your pencil pouch. Buy roller ball pens to make your writing dark and crisp in blue and black and then invest in the pink, purple, and green varieties as well to liven things up.

Hee hee. Im homeschooled so i start the first of september ^_^

I do my work on a computor, so i don't really need pens

Also, homeschooling does'nt let you make any friends, unless you are with an umbrella school like Aaron Academy like we are doing this year.

Almost time? I just finished my second week!!!

But mechanical pencils..try to get the recycled ones. And they are freeing. But you can't use them on CSAP, they have to give you standardized pencils too. Who knows why.

Ooh, my pencil has all the answers to a test that doesn't account for different learning styles!!!! OH NO!!! lol
