You and I both know there is nothing wrong with gamer girls. In fact, girls who game are really superior to those who donít, but we can make that our little secret. It seems a silly question, but is there ever a time that playing video or computer games might not be especially appropriate? Unfortunately, the answer is yes.

Need to Relax? Game!

Gaming a great way to relax. Throw on your pajamas, grab a few pillows and snacks and then sit back with your controller. Kick your feet up as you battle enemies and follow the plot lines to find true love or true enemies or true angels. Whatever, just relax!

Need to Do Homework? Not to Game.

If you have a pile of homework sitting in the corner that needs to get finished, avoid the temptation to play games right when you get home from school. Sure you need to relax, but you and I both know that ďjust five minutesĒ before you start your work can easily turn into ďjust five hours.Ē Finish your work ahead of time and make your game the treat for a job well done.

If itís the weekend or you have a long-term project, I still think you should do the homework or project as soon as possible. Put off your evening of play until after youíve finished for the weekend. That way you know you can play to your heartís content for the next two days without having to stress about whatís waiting inside that backpack.

Want to Stimulate the Brain? Game!

Video games have actually been shown to stimulate the brain in ways other activities (such as reading or doing homework) canít. Choose a game that involves strategies and thinking, not just killing or racing. The more you have to plan and carry through on those plans, the more exercise your brain is getting.

Havenít Been Outside Today? Not to Game.

Going outside for a quick walk or even just down the driveway to get in the car can have a huge impact on your mood, health, outlook and attitude. Avoid sitting in a darkened game room all day long. Take a long break and head outside for a jog, a stretch or just some time to lie around feeling the sun on your face and the breeze in your hair.

Have Some Time to Kill? Game!

Waiting on a hot date, but youíre already dressed and ready? Perhaps you have a party to go to in an hour and youíre rather anxious sitting around waiting to leave. Kill that time with a great game. You can get to the next level or maybe just to the next save point, but playing video games can make time pass extremely quickly. Before you know it, your date might just be sitting next to you playing along. Try to let him win once or twice.

Havenít Been Exercising? Not to Game.

Even if youíre thin, sitting around all day is really bad for you. If you ran in gym today, enjoy your hours of leisure at home. But if all your day consisted of was sitting in classrooms, sitting on the bus, and sitting at home, donít let a chance for a bit of exercise pass you by. Head to the gym or join a fun class or club to be sure youíre getting a chance to move. Or, if you just canít get away, bust out Dance, Dance Revolution (or the equivalent) and get your gamer girl groove on.

Computer games rule. My brothers and I always try to beat high scores on vid. games, But once we win the game, we lose interest. That's why I love the gmae Dr mario, for GBA, I just can't beat it! And I'm the only one who likes it!

Awesome tips on when not to, and when it's OKAY to play!

Legend of Zelda is a awesome game if you want strategy, fun, and because of the Wii version, EXERCISE! And as my name suggests, I LOVE IT!

My parent's don't believe gaming helps the brain no matter how many articles I show them. They think because I forget to do the dishes and take the dog out and don't listen very well when I'm playing, (Or reading..or writing..or basicly everything.) that it doesn't help.

Oh how wrong they're little pigeon brain minds are! Oh how wrong! -Walks away humming 'We're off to see the Wizard'-

ooh, but I have to disagree with the homework one. It depends on the game. I actually got My Word Coach Freanch, and it's totally helping my vocabulary. It's fun, and it's a DS game so I can bring it everywhere. My grade has gone up from playing it!!!!
