I know they are the rage. I know they look adorable. But I won’t be caught wearing skinny jeans in this lifetime. I have my reasons, and while they make perfect sense to me, you might have a totally different take on the matter. Different styles are what make fashion so fun.

Skinny Jeans Are Called Skinny for a Reason

I’m convinced that the term “skinny jeans” refers not only to the cut of the legs, but the shape of the person wearing them. Now, looking around the locker room on an average day, perhaps 10% of the girls in the room truly have skinny legs, hips and backsides. The rest are shaped in their own way.

Perhaps they are short with sturdy legs. They might be tall and muscular, including their powerful thighs. They might be curvy in all the right places. They might be curvy in a few extra places as well. There are shapes and sizes of every kind in the locker or dressing room. Since I’m not one of the ones you’d look at and call truly “skinny” I figure “skinny” jeans must not be for me.

Skinny Jeans Don’t Stay Up Well

It might be just my personal experience, but the low cut nature of the skinny jeans plus the stretch that is in the denim fabric makes them extra comfortable and ultra saggy after a while. The end result is that the jeans seem to stretch out during the day that you’re trying to wear them, and you spend most of the afternoon trying to make the back of your pants stay up high enough to prevent plumber’s crack.

Sure, baring thongs and such is fun for rock starlets, but leaning over a Bunsen burner while yanking stretchy skinny pants back into place doesn’t rank highly on my list of fun things to do every day. If you want to argue that wearing a tunic solves the visibility problem, I’ll give you partial credit. Others might not see the slippage, but you’ll still know it’s there. And nothing is more annoying than wanting to fix what you know you really can’t during the course of the day.

Skinny Jeans Look Awesome with Skinny Heels

Look at most advertisements and you’ll see lovely ladies wearing skinny jeans with terrifically stylish stiletto heels. Sure sometimes they wear furry boots over the skinny jeans or maybe a stylish flat, but I think the best look for the skinny jean is the skinny heel. Unfortunately, for the amount of walking I do around campus and such, skinny heels are out. And somehow my comfy shoes that look so good with regular jeans just don’t look as good with skinny jeans. So for the sake of my Converse and Vans, I shall wear jeans that don’t fall into the skinny variety. It’s a sacrifice worth making.

i have these adorable black suede ankle boots with heels, and everytime i wear my skin-tight skinny jeans with them people i barley know with come up to me and be like "omg your legs look so thin and long"

i like them bc they make me look taller [im 5'3], and they are easier to into boots as opposed to other jeans.

Skinny Jeans are only fun to wear when you got a pair of knee high boots to go over them. Point blank.

How're you doin?

I do think its kind of ridiculous that almost everyone wears them now days, but it doesn't mean they're terrible. I wear skinny jeans sometimes, as well as flare jeans. I'm about average in weight, and i think that skinny jeans flatter my figure quite well. And basically all i wear is converse, and they look great with my skinny jeans.

I love skinny jeans, they look good on a average and skinny person, but bigger than that and it's a turn off.

when my friend took me took get my first pair of skinny jeans, her first rule was to "never confuse straight-legged jeans with skinny jeans" but when she showed me the difference at the store, i chose straight-legged jeans. they just fit me and they also tend to slide down during the day as skinnies do, which gives me a great excuse to stop by the thrift store and pick up some 50 cent belts.

Skinny jeans don't actually look bad on people that have curvy legs. And just because someone is "skinny" that doesn't mean they have no curves. People who carry weight can look just as "straight down" as people who don't.

I actually find that drainpipe jeans are more practical, because when I wear other types of jeans, because I am quite short they drag along the floor. And I don't care what is "not in fashion anymore" etc. I wear what I find suitable for me.

I'm not feminine anyway so it doesn't exactly matter if I have a "plumber's crack".

I think that skinny jeans are nice sometimes, because they, in my opinon, offer more styling then regular jeans. (This may just be biased because my jeans hang down a lot.) I really don't see why they are so popular though, cuz there are more jeans that are way stylish. I dunno it may just be me.

Actually i beg to differ. I have skinny legs, but wide hips and a good sized (but not fat or anything) butt. I believe when it comes to skinny jeans, or any jeans at all it's all about finding the correct size,a nd fit. I love my skinny jeans because they do extentuate (sorry about the spelling on that) my curves. Skinny jeans can be worn by almost everyone, it just depends on how you choose to wear them

She means that curves aren't an awful thing to have, which they aren't. I wear skinny jeans, but not the super tight ones. And I am really skinny, but I am a bit curvy too, like my hips.

I don't think skinny jeans look right on anyone. If you're skinny enough to wear them then you should be wearing some slightly flared pants and skirts to give your skinny structure some curves. Curves are not the de.vil people. And I don't see how looking like a stick is attractive. But some people love them and that's their right, so it's none of my business.
