When you hang around your girlfriends, you can get away with saying all kinds of things – even if you don’t think the comment through completely before you blurt it out. They know you and love you. For the most part, this is true of a boyfriend or a guy that you’ve hung out with for years. But we all know that having a crush
is a bit different than having a guy BFF. When you like someone, you need to be on your best behavior and that includes the things that come out of your mouth.
“Does this make my butt look fat?”
I don’t know what kind of guy you’re interested in, but the ones that I want hanging around me aren’t going to be staring at my butt – especially at my request. Not only that, but you’ll make a guy
very uncomfortable by mentioning insecurities, even if you’re kidding. If you’re worried about an outfit, ask a friend or just change to something you like better. Don’t drag a guy into your personal drama – you’ll make him feel like he has to answer, and he’ll be stuck trying to figure out what to say that will make him seem like a nice guy and keep you happy at the same time.
“Your friend is so hot and funny.”
Guys are more insecure than you might think. You might think that his best friend is the hottest thing you’ve ever seen, and at the same time be totally dedicated to your guy. But he doesn’t always know what goes on in your head. If you tell him his friend is hot, he’ll immediately think he must not be, and that you’re more interested in his friend than you are in him. Think what you want about other guys, but fatten up your own guy’s ego. I do have to wonder though, if you’re commenting on other guys in his presence – are you really interested in him?
“Gosh! I’m so bloated today!”
As accommodating as guys can be, they really could care less about the inner working of the female body. If this is a bad week for you, take some Midol and complain to your mother and girlfriends. Boys would just as soon be left out of PMS discussions completely – it just makes them uncomfortable, and you’re probably uncomfortable enough for everyone.
“I really have to go to the bathroom.”
Okay, going to the bathroom isn’t really that big of a deal so long as you’re going #1. It’s #2 that causes guys so many mental issues. If you ask your best guy friends, you’ll learn that virtually all boys live in a fantasy land where girls don’t have that kind of tummy ache and they certainly never have gas. Of course we all know what goes in must come out, but if guys want to think otherwise, I’m not one to dissuade them.
