Lunch is probably the best time you’ll have at school, and you can make it even better this year by forming your very own lunch bunch. You probably already have a group you sit with at lunch, but if you’re like most of us, you probably bring your own lunch bag every morning and so do your friends. Four of you are all scrounging around in the morning for something to eat when you could have things much simply by just planning ahead.
Organizing the Lunch Bunch
Your friends can help you eat lunch every day, and in the same way you can help them. All you need to do is get organized so that you can bring the items you need to make one big portion of the meal every day. Think of how much easier it would be to grab a bag of lettuce in the morning or to just grab a loaf of bread instead of making your own food.
Joining lunch forces is simple and it makes lunch that much more fun. Let’s pretend that you eat lunch with three other people every day. You have a group of four and normally you’d just all bring your lunch. Instead, try to divide up the things you need to make a good lunch and have everyone bring their own items. You might bring a bag of bread, peanut butter and honey or jam. Bring along a knife and everyone can make their own sandwich.
Your friends can bring along a bag of chips to share with whole group or some cut veggies and fruit. The next friend can bring everyone a bottle of water or a can of soda or fruit juice. The fourth friend can be in charge of dessert. The next week you switch and try something else.
Enjoying Lunch Bunch
With an established lunch bunch, you’re able to eat for less than you would if you were packing your own lunch every morning or counting on your mom to do it. You might spend more on the week when you’re bringing the sandwiches, but you’ll spend less when you just have to buy a single bag of chips or some bottled water.
Think of it as having a pot-luck picnic every single day. You’re getting out of packing lunch every day, you have something special you’re sharing with your friends at lunch time and you might even be tempted to try new food items you’ve never eaten before since all of your friends will be bringing along some of their favorites. Be sure that you share ahead of time any sorts of things you really can’t stand to eat or just make your sandwiches at the table instead of at home before hand. That way everyone has a bit more choice as to what goes into their meal.
Store the leftovers in your locker or take them home and bring them back the next day, and you’ll be able to enjoy something fun and different every day of every week all year long!
