Iíve been doing some thinking about getting a new pet. I love animals, but Iím also very busy and need a pet that doesnít need constant care and attention the way some high-strung dogs and cats do. Iíd prefer to not come home to chewed-up shoes and destroyed curtains.

Tortoise

Iím seriously considering getting a tortoise. The tortoise lives for fifty or sixty years, however, and has to be included in your will. Well, not really in your will, but you will need to plan for your tortoise to possibly outlive you, even if you get him now. I think having a tortoise wandering about the living room would be fun. After all, they prefer dry warm environments to the wet worlds of turtles. Leave my tortoise some veggies and heíll just hang out in the kitchen or the backyard while Iím gone. I wonder if tortoises can be potty trainedÖ

A Lazy Dog

A big, excited dog that needs to run and play outside would be hard for me to take care of properly. But a dog that likes to just lie around would be great. Little dogs like dachshunds seem to like to lie around a lot or maybe a hound dog. Something low key, lazy and loveable sounds just about perfect for me. Good for a snuggle and a warm greeting at the end of the day.

An Independent Cat

There are kitties out there that donít need me to constantly stroke and love on them in order to prevent the risk of finding my curtains and bedspread in tatters. If I could find a cat that is independent and seems to love just sitting in the sun for hours or lying on my foot while I do homework I could definitely handle having a cat. Like a dog though, Iíd have to deal with shedding and such, but at least a cat can use a litter box, making that aspect of things much neater.

Fish

A fish is a nice sort of pet. The fish can swim around in his little tank and keep an eye on things while I chat with friends online or text. The fish needs a bit of food and maybe some fresh water every now and again and thatís about it. He could have a really cool name like ďKillerĒ and do pretty much nothing but swim around all day. The trouble with fish, however, is that the fish require feeding on a regular basis and you canít take them to board or just leave some food out for them if youíre going out of town for the weekend. Plus if I wound up with a variety of fish that wasnít very hardy, he wouldnít stand a chance.

Horse

Okay, itís unlikely, but if I could get my parents to buy me a horse, Iíd take terrific care of it. I could spend every afternoon with my horse at the stables and learn to ride like the wind. Granted every girl dreams of a horse at some time it seems, but maybe when I have my own home and my own funds I can really get a horse I can enjoy. Horses are so intelligent and faithful; Iíd love to have one as a friend. Just think of the adventures you could have on the back of your trusty steed!

I have a dog, her name is Lucky and she is a cross between a Labrador and Beagle, called a Babrador or Labreagle. I seriously don't reccomend getting a fish, especially goldfish, because they don't live a long life. Cats just get my mum crazy and milk came out of my nose when she said that she would like to stick her toe up Collin (the cat next door)'s bottom. And tortoises, anyone living in or moving to England can't get a tortoise; the toirtoises were being cramped in little wooden boxes to get from Africa to the UK, which is not a long journey if you think about it, but the animals were being tortured.

I have a wonderful cat named Katie that is very independent, though lately she's been really needy and lovable lately. I find that cats are better because as eliginorski said, they don't jump on you once you enter the room. xD

Lol! Our cats freak out when any kind of "pull" can is opened. You know, like the ones for canned chicken and beanie weenies and such? They think we're opening cat food and get depressed when they see it go into the microwave or on the stove top, lol!

Oh yes, and I do have a cat. Her name is Angel...she's just the most adorable thing ever. I've had her since I was 11 and she was 5 months old.

Tuna is her favorite food...every time you open a can (any can, doesn't matter what's in it) she thinks it's tuna and she just comes running and starts begging for some. And then she gives you the cold shoulder if she doesn't get anything. It's cute...

Honestly, I much prefer cats. They're so adorable and it makes it so much easier that they generally don't jump all over people and can stand to not have you pay constant attention to them.

And hairless cats don't shed...and they're still kind of cute.

Cats are my favorite. I have 3, all of which have completely different personalities:

The Baby: Is the oldest and is the perfect mixture of personality. He's lovable in very small proportions, doesn't meow constantly (when he does meow it's because he's starving, like when we've been out all day and couldn't feed him). His only issue is that he's got a majorly sensitive stomache. His kibble is a bit expensive because of that issue.

Spooky Jr.: Is very very very independant. He's only a cuddler when he wants something, lol. He's incredibly smart...and vocal, both of which are an equation for trouble!

Ryoko: He's the Love Bug or the Little Buddy. He just wants to lovelovelovelovelove. Sometimes he's vocal too, but normally he's telling us stories. He tells us his dreams (when he wakes up, he meows) he tells you he's stuck in the bathroom agin, and he wonders outloud where Daddy is. He's got a mean streak, loves to pick fights with his brothers. And he's the runt...*rolls eyes*
