Now that school is in full swing, having fun on the weekends is more important than ever. And what better way to enjoy the weekends than going to see a great movie? Of course getting into a movie
requires some serious cash these days (unless you’re one of those horribly tacky people who skip from movie to movie all day to avoid paying for more than one), and most disappointing of all is how few movies are worth the cash we shell out (those of us who do actually pay, of course.)
Movies Worth Seeing
With so many movies out there, it was just a matter of time before they found something decent to release. In my humble opinion, here are just a few of the movies coming out in the relatively near future I might be willing to pay to see on the big screen:
Of course Twilight has to be the first movie on the list. I’ll be heartbroken if I get in the theater and find they’ve butchered it as much as they did Eragon. I have faith, however, that Twilight is going to be everything they’ve promised. I’ll admit that I have a secret hope – I hope they leave out enough details from the book that those who have taken the time to actually read the series before seeing the movie can be smug about it. “Yeah, the movie was pretty good – it’s a shame they didn’t talk about what REALLY happened in the woods….”
Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist
Based on yet another great teen book, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist is a bit different from the book, according to reviews, but it will still be good. I loved the book, but younger audiences should be aware that there is at least one rather graphic scene. The book is really written for high school or college kids. I can’t wait to see how the two older teens from the book look on the big screen. (It’s a quirky, real-life romance, by the way.)
Pirates of the Caribbean 4
Johnny Depp is back for another installment as Captain Jack Sparrow, but it’s not particularity clear when the movie will be released. As a Pirates fan, I guess I’ll just have to wait patiently for the latest and greatest installment. Johnny Depp
signed on in September 2008 for the fourth installment, so it should make it to us by 2011 – that’s a long wait, but hopefully worth it!
Truly yummy, the prequel to the X-men movies will be released in May of 2009. Hugh Jackman is delicious to watch, especially when he’s in full fight action. The movie will tell the tales of Wolverine’s tragic and romantic past. His past played a pretty important part in the movies that have been released, so now we’ll be able to actually see what happened to that poor (hot) mutant man.
The City of Ember
Yet another fabulous book turned movie, the City of Ember is going to catch a lot of people by surprise. If you haven’t read the book, it’s short enough that you can knock it out in a day or two. The plot in the book is unusual and it’s a terrific fantasy. If you’re into fantasy (or even if you’re not) this is one you definitely don’t want to miss. The City of Ember hit theaters on October 10, 2008.
