There is something about the air in spring that makes me think of picnics. I love to pack up the picnic basket and head somewhere pretty and just snack, talk and have a good time. There are different types of picnics, of course.

Family Picnics

The family picnic can be a nice time to hang out with your mom, dad, sisters and brothers. Itís funny, but sometimes I feel like I see my family less than I see everyone else. Going to the beach with a picnic basket, sunscreen, family and my iPod is great. You get caught up on what your family is doing, you get to play at the beach and you get credit for all that family togetherness Ė moms are really big on that, you know.

Family picnics might get old if you had one every week, but once every month or two, look online to see what you can find that would be fun. Try the beach, the zoo, rivers, hiking, wildflowers, wildlife or camping. You can have an urban picnic in the park surrounded by skyscrapers and museums or you can have one out in the woods surrounded by nature. All of them are great ways to get back in touch with your family.

Romantic Picnics

I havenít had many opportunities to have a romantic picnic, but a girl can dream. In my version of the romantic picnic, I get to hike to somewhere beautiful and then settle down on a blanket for some sweet nothings and maybe a kiss. I always picture romantic picnics up in the mountains, on a quiet beach at sunset, or by a lake where there are flowers and big shade trees. But that might be because Iíve seen too many movies.

Picnics with Friends

When you decide to picnic with your friends, you can have a blast. If you have friends that are up for just about anything, you can have a picnic literally anywhere. Iíve had friends decide they were just desperate to spread a blanket and have a meal in the median of a busy road. So they did. They just ran across the road when there was no traffic, set up shop on the wide grassy median and had lunch for an hour or so.

Iím not sure if they were able to hear each other well with cars zipping past on either side, and I certainly donít recommend this plan as it was extremely unsafe, but it does show just how crazy you can be with your buddies. I like the idea of a pot-luck picnic with friends. Everyone promise to bring a certain type of food or drink and then meet somewhere fun, like a field in the evening.

Build a (legal) bonfire, share your picnic food, dance, sing and be merry. There is no reason your picnic canít be a party!

I love picnics. One time I took my husband out for a Breakfast picnic! I was early morning and we dipped french toast sticks that I had pre-made from scratch and watched the sun rise. Romantic and fun and different. We also go on lunch time and dinner time picnics. One time I surprised him after work with a picnic in the trunk. He had no idea until he realized we weren't going home but to the park!

good times. We used to go on a hike once a month in the summer when we lived closer to the mountains, and once we'd got to the highest part or somebody was tired, we'd sit down and eat. It was great.
