I truly love the fall. As far as Iím concerned autumn is the most overlooked seasons
Ė and there are only four to choose from. In the fall, the weather starts to loose its sweaty edge and eventually turns downright cold. Away go the strappy clothing of summer and out come comfy sweaters and cords. Boots are finally in style and rich colors are encouraged.
The First Cold Snap
The hottest days of summer
gradually cool a bit, and I love the first truly noticeable cold snap. And I like it best when it happens without me realizing it. There is something powerful about walking into school at seventy degrees and walking out at fifty. Or waking up in the morning needing your fuzzy slippers to keep your toes warm while you get ready for school.
Blankets and Pillows
While summer inspires pajama parties and frivolity, autumn makes me want to truly cuddle up with fuzzy blankets, plenty of pillows and rich food and drinks. A mug of hot chocolate, a thick blanket and a classic movie on television sounds like the perfect Friday night Ė especially if you get to prop those blanket covered feet in someone specialís lap.
The moment stores stop selling back-to-school supplies, they pull out the aisles of Halloween stuff and I love it. I love the little squishy pumpkin candies and I love to decorate for Halloween
. Digging through the special effects aisle with wigs and face make-up is so much more fun than just picking out a costume in a bag. Halloween is a time to get creative and enjoy spending a lot of time with your best friends wearing all kinds of freaky costumes.
Over the summer, you get to hang out with friends away from school. But now that schoolís back in, you can hang with your friends and kick it up a notch by supporting your buddies and your classmates are various events. Water polo is a blast on cold evenings and the football stands are crowded and fun with good purpose. Bring some blankets, and grab some nachos while you watch your friends march around in the half-time show or carry the ball up the field for the big touchdown.
I love the feeling of the first formal dance of the year. Most schools have some sort of Homecoming or autumn dance every year, and itís one of the most entertaining formal dances simply because it has the least amount of stress associated with it. There are no big prom rules to follow. You simply find a great dress, get a group of friends together and head off to the big dance to enjoy the evening and take plenty of amusing pictures.
For some reason, the fall always seems to have a feeling of cleanliness to me. The earth is preparing for the winter
and cleaning out is in order. The cold air feels lighter than the heavy air of summer. The dry leaves on the ground leave the trees bare in a flurry of color. The cool weather lets you take long walks and exercise outside enjoying the weather without breaking a sweat, leaving you feeling cleaner as well.
