It's more like "anti-fashion" than actual fashion, because if you're truly Emo then you'll know it's not cool to care about appearances. Nevertheless, Emo has a distinctive style all of its own, and this guide will show you how to get it…

Where to buy Emo

When it comes to Emo fashion, where you buy it is just as important as what it looks like – maybe more so, in fact. No true Emo wants to help support some faceless corporation, so look for your clothes in thrift stores and at flea markets, or even on eBay (just type "Emo" into the search box). They cost you less and you can be sure of finding something truly different that no one else will be wearing. Just as importantly, your money will be going to help a worthy cause. Of course, if you really can’t find what you're looking for, Hot Topic does a good line in Emo, too…

What to buy

There are several Emo basics which you really can't afford to be without. Chief of these is the vintage t-shirt, preferably one with some kind of incomprehensible logo on the front. Your t-shirt should be tight fitting and as old as possible – if it has that "newly purchased" look about it, then it's just not Emo, I'm afraid.

Next, you'll need some Emo shoes. Top choice here is for Converse All-Stars, but bear in mind that they'll need to be properly worn-in and roughed-up before they can be called truly "Emo".

Emo accessories

Accessories are important to the Emo look, specifically glasses and hats. For hats, look no further than the trucker cap, ideally one with some kind of slogan on the front. Glasses should be thick-rimmed and ugly, in a throwback to the 50s. Wear them with thick bangs and black, dyed hair, and congratulations – you're officially Emo!

Ok people, first of all, being 'emo' can be a lifestyle but it doesn't mean you cut! Stop associating stereotypes with real people. Because everyone is a different person that no label can fit. 'emo' can ALSO be a way to dress, because there is no denying that 'emos' have a certain look going for them.

Real emos dont cut themselves. Sure, we cry. Sure, We're emotional. But we actually have reasons to cry and be emotional. And FYI we don't care about how we look.

emo has alot more to do with being straight edge, romantic, and different than conforming to some stupid stereotypes. emo is short for EMOTIONAL, and most are romantic and overly emotional, especially the guys.

I REALLY AGREE WITH SOME OF THE POINTS MADE BY PPL BUT!!!

"emo" is a style that originated in the early 80s in londons underground. with this fashion trend came prejidice remarks from ppl calling them "emotional"

it came to north america and things got out of hand.

the ppl started refering the style with cutting and suicidle ppl

it is not a style anymore but what i think some ppl know they can get away with the attention of dressing this way. but the way U dress is the way U want to look

and if ur tired of having a boring look

don't go emo just cuz ppl think ur cooler
